With up to 750,000 visitors expected in the region over the next month for the World Cup, Valley's Emergency Management Committee has been busy making sure we're prepared for every scenario that might impact our patients and staff.

Recently, we had a communications drill and tested out our HAM radios and satellite phones. These backup communications could be crucial if cellular, phone, and internet service goes down. Thank you to Dan with Western Washington Medical Services for giving us extra education around the regional HAM radio system and helping Valley stay prepared! And thanks to our other partners in the region for working with us to practice!

Congratulations to Christine Hellman, RN, in Cardiac Telemetry, for being a DAISY award winner! 🌼Here is what her nomination said:

"I would like to nominate Christine Hellman for the DAISY Award to recognize the extraordinary compassion, professionalism, and clinical excellence she demonstrates every day. Christine is the kind of nurse who embodies what true patient-centered care looks like.

Her kindness, attentiveness, and unwavering dedication are evident not only in her daily responsibilities, but also in the way she treats every patient and family member with respect, empathy, and genuine concern.

Recently, a patient's loved ones witnessed Christine's exceptional skill and calm leadership during a truly frightening and critical moment when the patient experienced a severe seizure, collapsed, and stopped breathing. In an instant, Christine assessed the situation, called a code without hesitation, and took command of the emergency response. Her ability to remain composed while directing the team was remarkable. She ensured that every step-from airway management to stabilization-was performed efficiently and effectively.

Because of Christine's quick actions, expert clinical judgment, and strong leadership, the patient was successfully stabilized and transferred to the CCU for advanced care. Throughout the entire event, she not only cared for the patient but also made sure their family felt supported, informed, and reassured during a moment of overwhelming fear.

Christine's professionalism goes far beyond this single incident. She consistently goes above and beyond in her daily work, taking time to listen, offering comfort, and ensuring that each patient feels safe and valued. Her work ethic, compassion, and dedication to excellence reflect the very best of the nursing practice profession.

For these reasons and many more, I strongly and wholeheartedly recommend Christine Hellmann for the DAISY Award. Her extraordinary care made a lasting impact on this family, and we are deeply grateful for her presence, expertise, and heart. I am so glad that Christine is part of the Valley Family."

For years, this fountain sat quietly at the
heart of our hospital.

Today, we celebrate its transformation into The
Oasis—a living garden rooted in nature and created as
a place of renewal for patients, families, staff,
volunteers, and providers alike.

In a place where life's most meaningful moments
unfold—from new beginnings and joyful celebrations to
healing, reflection, and remembrance—we all need a
space to pause, breathe, and find peace.

More than a beautiful space, The Oasis is a reminder
that healing is about more than medicine. It’s about
connection, compassion, comfort, and humanity.

We welcome our Valley community to enjoy this
renewed space on the second floor of our Main
Hospital.

A special thank you to Vantage Radiology for their
generous donation, and to the many donors who
supported this project through our Thank a Caregiver
program. Together, you have created a lasting gift for
everyone who walks through our doors. 💚🌿

Some volunteers leave an impact that's impossible to measure.

For the past 29 years our volunteer Gene has been a familiar face around Valley—always ready with a smile, a story, or a joke to brighten someone's day. 😊

After contributing more than 4,000 hours of service, Gene has officially hung up his volunteer vest and took his well-earned place among Valley’s volunteer legends, leaving behind an inspiring legacy.

His warmth, generosity, and genuine love of people have touched countless lives. In fact, when asked what he loves most about volunteering at Valley, his answer is simple: “It’s the people.” That sentiment reflects the spirit of giving Gene has embodied for nearly three decades—showing up for others with kindness, heart, and, of course, his famous quick wit.

Thank you, Gene, for the laughter, the stories, and the lasting impact you've made on our Valley community. We’ll miss you and wish you all the best in your next chapter. 💙

They don’t compete for ribbons or trophies. But ask anyone who’s felt a gentle head rest on their hand during a tough day, found comfort in a quiet cuddle, or watched a loved one light up during a visit—and you’ll know our Pet Therapy pups win every time.

Off duty, you’ll find them soaking up beach days, backyard lounging, and birthday celebrations. Our Pet Therapy pups aren’t competing for Best in Show. They’ve already earned it! Thank you to these champion pups and their handlers for bringing joy, love, and comfort to our patients (and our staff too!). 🐾❤
