As many of you know, Fairfax County Public Schools has officially implemented a strict, "bell-to-bell" cell phone ban across all grade levels. This means our high schoolers will no longer have the lunch break exception—all phones, smartwatches, and AirPods must be turned off and tucked away in backpacks for the entire school day.As a therapist who works with teens right here in the area, I am seeing a massive mix of emotions from local families. On one hand, it feels like a collective breath of fresh air. Less digital distraction means more face-to-face connection, less social media drama during the day, and a real chance for kids to just be present. On the other hand, it’s sparking a lot of real anxieties. Parents are wondering how they will reach their kids in an emergency, and teens are feeling stressed about losing their primary comfort tool and music for winding down at lunch. I’d love to hear from you - How is your teen reacting to the news? As a parent, what is your biggest relief or your biggest worry about this new policy?
