Sun protection is an important part of keeping kids healthy year-round. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 and reapplying at least every 2 hours or sooner after swimming or sweating. For babies younger than 6 months, shade and protective clothing are the best ways to prevent sun exposure. Don’t forget hats, sunglasses, and lightweight protective clothing for added protection. Healthy sun habits started early can help protect your child’s skin for years to come!

Protecting your child’s skin starts with sun safety. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 on children when spending time outdoors. Apply sunscreen 15-30 minutes before sun exposure and reapply every two hours, or sooner after swimming or sweating. For babies younger than 6 months, it is best to avoid direct sunlight and use shade, protective clothing, and hats whenever possible. Remember that sun protection is important year-round, even on cloudy days. Healthy habits now can help reduce the risk of sun damage and skin cancer later in life!

Sun-safe kids are happy kids! This is part 1 of our 2-part series with Dr. Pettit where we discuss sun protection. When heading outdoors, don’t forget these simple sun protection tips:

• Wear a wide-brimmed hat to help shade the face, ears, and neck.
• Choose tightly woven clothing that covers the shoulders and arms for added protection from UV rays.
• Seek shade when possible, especially during peak sun hours.

A few simple habits can help keep your little ones protected while they enjoy all the fun that summer has to offer. Stay tuned for part 2 about sunscreen!

The World Cup is underway, and we’re cheering on Team USA! ⚽🇺🇸 Just like the athletes on the field, children benefit from regular physical activity to build strong bodies, healthy habits, and confidence. Get outside, stay active, and enjoy the excitement of the game!

As the temperatures rise, don’t forget to protect your little ones from harmful UV rays. Remember to:
- Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30+) for children 6 months and older
- Wear hats and sunglasses. Choose lightweight, protective clothing
- Stay hydrated
- Seek shade during peak sun hours (10 AM - 4 PM)
A little sun protection goes a long way in keeping your child healthy and safe all summer long.

Seeing your child have a febrile seizure can be frightening, but they are more common than many parents realize. Febrile seizures are triggered by a fever, most often in children between 6 months and 5 years of age. While they can look alarming, most febrile seizures are brief and do not cause long-term health problems.
If your child experiences a febrile seizure:
- Place them on their side on a safe surface
- Stay calm and watch the time
- Do not put anything in their mouth
- Seek medical attention, especially if it is their first seizure
