Representing the interests of audiologists and audiology students nationwide, the Academy is dedicated to providing quality hearing-care services through professional development, education, research, and increased public awareness of hearing and balance d

isorders. The American Academy of Audiology promotes quality hearing and balance care by advancing the profession of audiology. Only official accounts created and managed by Academy staff under the provision of the Academy Executive Director and Board of Directors, shall utilize Academy logos and official imagery. Any other Academy-affiliated groups or non-affiliated state Academy organization pages must use their own images to not breach Academy copyright. Access a recent JAAA article, Early Signs of Aging in Auditory Function Reflected in the Event-Related Potentials. The primary aim of this study was to use auditory event-related potentials (ERPs) including the cortical auditory evoked potential (CAEP), mismatch negativity (MMN), and the P300 in young and upper-middle-aged adults to determine early effects of aging on auditory processing at the preattentive and attentive levels.

Can You (Or Should You) Bring a Baby to a Concert?

Have you ever seen a baby or a young child at a very noisy event? Chances are you have. And often, these infants and young children are not wearing hearing protection.

Recently, at a concert by the Colombian rapper and singer-songwriter Maluma, the show was stopped by the artist. He spoke to a parent in the audience, asking the fan, “Do you think it’s a good idea to bring a 1-year-old baby to a concert where the decibels are through the…roof, where the sound is blasting?” He then advised the parent to protect the child’s ears—or better yet, not bring the baby along.

Use of a Tablet-Based Mobile Classifier to Diagnose Vestibular Disorders:

In a preprint article by Rye et al. (2026), the feasibility of utilizing a tablet-based screening questionnaire (“mobile classifier”) to diagnose vestibular disorders was studied. Individuals with “vestibular symptoms” were asked to complete a 47-item questionnaire, which took slightly over seven minutes.
