This 🏫August Ace of a Teacher🍏Spotlight is on...
ALYSSA!!!
Alyssa is a Tennessee native who found her way to Rexburg to obtain a bachelor degree from Brigham Young University Idaho. She graduated with a degree in Biomedical Science with the plan to pursue either dental or PA school. To help make this decision, Alyssa decided on taking a gap year and began working in an orthodontic office. She loved the job but mainly loved talking about the associated knowledge that she was gaining. A couple months after starting that position, she was able to start teaching at BYUI. While doing both, Alyssa found her joy in teaching. This joy helped her realize that graduate school wasn't for her. Therefore, due to her love of science and teaching, that's how she found her way to us.

When Alyssa isn't teaching, she's spending time with her husband, Braydon. They enjoy visiting family, watching and attending sports games, playing games and movie nights.

The 🪄MAGIC🪄of Cupping dates back to ancient Egyptian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern cultures! 🤗 One of the oldest medical books 📚 in the world, the Ebers Papyrus from 1550 B.C., describes how the ancient Egyptians used cupping therapy for treating fever, pain, vertigo, menstrual problems, and other ailments.

The Egyptians introduced cupping to the ancient Greeks who used it as a cure for almost every illness. In traditional Chinese medicine, it’s closely linked to acupuncture. Originally, hollowed-out animal horns were used to treat boils and suck out venom from snake bites!😳Eventually, horns were replaced by bamboo and then by glass cups. 🥰 Today Cupping uses a cup to pull an area of skin into a suction that decompresses muscles and connective tissue. This promotes blood flow to the compromised area, enhances circulation and helps to increase the body’s own healing processes — almost like a backward deep tissue massage! There are several different types of cups ranging from glass to silicone and bamboo, and there are different ways to use them. Sometimes practitioners will only use one or two cups. Other times, they’ll cover your entire back with cups. Two popular types of cupping: stationary and sliding. Stationary cupping uses suction only, keeping the cups in place for a set time, usually 5 to 10 minutes. Sliding cupping is more like a deep tissue massage where the provider moves the cups over the area of pain or concern. 🤩 Ask one of our students about cupping during your next massage appointment! 📆 www.rexburgcmt.com

Today our students delve into our Applied Kinetics class right after their Kinesiology class! 📚 Book work 1st, then they 👐🏻 partner up for Applied Kinetics to test their knowledge at palpating each muscle, finding it’s origin and insertion and learning each muscles movement! 💪🏼
