Myofascial Release is not about forcing the body to change. It is about meeting the fascial restriction with sustained, intentional pressure and giving the tissue enough time to respond.
In the John F. Barnes approach, we work at the fascial barrier and wait, often for five minutes or longer, instead of sliding over the tissue or pushing past it. That sustained pressure allows the fascial system, ground substance, fluid flow, and nervous system to begin changing in a deeper way.
Fascial restrictions can place pressure on pain-sensitive structures, limit movement, affect posture, and contribute to symptoms that may feel unrelated. This is why lasting change often requires more than stretching, strengthening, supplements, or temporary pain relief. Those things may support the body, but they do not replace hands-on, sustained work into the fascial system itself.
The principle is simple: meet the barrier, wait with the body, and allow the system to release from the inside out.
