š My Journey: A Path to Occupational Therapy š
When I left Sudan as a refugee, survival was my only thought. Arriving in Dallas in 1986, I asked myself a more daunting question: "Now, what do I do with my life?" With support from the community and the U.S. refugee resettlement program, I turned my dreams into reality.
Through the kindness of mentors and a supportive community, I carved out my path in occupational therapy. My first steps began at El Centro College, where a compassionate staff member provided me with a roadmap to education. I worked tirelessly to balance raising children and pursuing my degree, eventually graduating from Texas Woman's University.
Starting as a school-based therapist, I found my passion in helping students regain their independence. Today, at PAM Health, I thrive in a dynamic environment, guiding patients through their rehabilitation journeys. It's not just about the jobāit's about being part of a family dedicated to making a difference every day.
Now, Iām passionate about mentoring the next generation of occupational therapists, paying forward the kindness I received years ago. Every patient interaction is a chance to empower and inspire.
I invite you to reflect on your own journey and the support that has guided you along the way. Together, we can build a community of compassion and empowerment.
