If someone you love was just diagnosed with early-stage dementia, this one’s for you. And if you know a family going through it, please share. 💛
This is a moment from Answers for Aging, our brand new podcast! It was supposed to launch a little while back, but we’re happy to say it’s coming very soon. We’ve filmed about 10 episodes so far, plus shorts, and we really hope they bring value to families walking this road.
We get calls from families all the time asking where to even start. Here’s what we tell them.
Don’t be afraid. You’re not alone, and it’s okay to look for help because this isn’t easy.
In the early stages, your loved one might just be a little forgetful. It’s natural to want to protect them by taking things away, like the car keys, the checkbook, or the kitchen. But taking away their independence and dignity usually isn’t the answer. A lot of times, what they really need is just more of you being present.
Of course, that’s easier said than done. Family has work, kids, and their own lives to manage. That’s exactly where ComForCare can step in and become part of your family, filling those gaps so your loved one stays safe, social, and supported at home.
There are also some great resources out there:
👉 Support groups, for both your loved one and for you
👉 The GUIDE program, a newer Medicare benefit for people living with dementia. It gives families a set number of respite care hours each year. It’s not everything, but it’s a big help.
If you or someone you love ever needs a hand, think of the ComForCare team in Dallas for all your non-medical home care needs. Call us anytime at 469-965-4900. We’d love to help.
