Earlier this week, members of the VNPC team attended the AIM Conference, joining maternal health leaders from across the country to learn, collaborate, and share ideas focused on improving care for moms and babies.

Conferences like AIM provide an opportunity to hear what's working, discuss challenges, and bring back new strategies that can help strengthen maternal and infant health efforts across Virginia.

We're grateful for the opportunity to connect with partners committed to improving outcomes for families and look forward to applying what we've learned to support the work happening throughout the Commonwealth.

Today, we honor Juneteenth and reflect on the generations of Black leaders, advocates, healthcare professionals, and midwives whose contributions have helped shape maternal and infant care in communities across the country.

For generations, Black midwives cared for mothers, delivered babies, and provided trusted support to families, often serving as the foundation of care within their communities. Their knowledge, compassion, and dedication helped improve the health and well-being of countless families.

As we celebrate Juneteenth, we recognize their lasting impact and the important role they played in advancing care for moms and babies.

Our final photoshoot at Urban Baby Beginnings in Richmond was a celebration of the real moms and families who make Virginia stronger every day. Thank you to everyone who joined us as we wrapped up this special series and captured the beauty of pregnancy and early parenthood.

Today, VNPC joined Governor Abigail Spanberger and partners from across Virginia for the ceremonial signing of the Queen Candis Hope for Sickle Cell Act.

This landmark legislation honors the life and legacy of Candis Gabriella King and represents a significant step forward in supporting individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease across the Commonwealth.

Several bills were included in today's signing focused on improving health outcomes for individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease and promoting respectful care for all patients, particularly pregnant and postpartum women. Through SB22 and HB1147 (companion bills), VNPC was specifically tasked with evaluating the impact of training for providers who deliver fertility, prenatal, birth, and postpartum care, developing methods to assess its effectiveness, and making recommendations for improvement.

Together, we can continue improving care and outcomes for Virginia families.
