In my last post, I talked about the risk of potential pitfalls moving from traditional church to Home church. Although this is in no way an exhaustive list, I wanted to share three ways to have a sustainable safe faith community whether gathered in small intimate settings or a traditional church setting. What are some other things you would add?

Unspoken rules are hard to follow. People new to the faith, seeking community may find it hard to fit in when they don’t understand the “language” of church. This language isn’t necessarily the language of the “big C Church”. We’ve all been on the outside of an inside joke 😂 and that doesn’t feel good.

Sometimes lack of inclusion isn’t intentional, it’s just really easy to fall into “that’s just how we’ve always done it”.

What are some unspoken church rules someone who is unchurched may find confusing or hard to understand?

Somewhere along the way the Great Commission has been de-centered. The appetites for what people are looking for from a church is changing. Many are looking for churches that find ways to serve the community and give back.

They are looking for churches that do things out of need and kindness rather than doing things in exchange for a person’s membership. Discipleship becomes harder when we center our own needs and comforts.

This isn’t about discouraging people from assembling but ensuring when we DO assemble, we’re keeping the main thing the main thing. Jesus first Jesus always ❤️

Religious psychosis is real. However, it is also being used to discourage those who are in their sanctification process to question their walk. This video is a quick breakdown of the difference between actual religious psychosis, religious OCD, overly zealous Christians, and sanctification. Proper mental health education matters.

Yes I know the saints can be something else at times 😩, but understanding someone else’s church hurt claim doesn’t require identical experiences. It does require humility to recognize that someone else’s journey may have been very different from our own. Empathy starts when we find ourselves more curious about each other’s experiences. ✝️👑
