🌿 SHOP GAL FEATURE: Meet Meredith 🌿

Hi! I’m Meredith. I’ve been at Boketto since June. Historically I have been in the food and beverage world (with a couple year stint in massage therapy). Through a series of kismet events I’ve landed at Boketto and am taking over shop management 🙃

Q: What’s always in your bag?
A: Everything. I like to be prepared. Pens (Pilot .38 G2’s only), sharpies, pocket knife, chapstick, multiple scents, tinctures, florida water, small notebook, physical planner (cannot and will not use a phone calendar), w**e key, lighter, just in case bandana, and ideally but unfortunately sometimes missing, my wallet

Q: Coffee, tea, matcha, or something else?
A: Ritualistically having a cup of coffee with breakfast. Big thyme herb gal so I am a huge fan of herbal tea blends, and that’s usually what I’m drinking the rest of the day.

Q: Sun, Moon, Rising
A: Virgo Sun, Leo Moon, Virgo Rising

Q: Favorite place(s) in Richmond?
A: Sneed’s Nursery, Great Big Greenhouse, Southside Trails that I will leave undisclosed because I have reactive dogs. Pocahontas and Powhatan State Park. VMFA on a rainy day.

Q: What’s one product in the Boketto shop you genuinely can’t live without?
A: Quintons - iykyk. La Lyra Mood Mist or Perfume Rollers - scents are a must for me.

Q: Ocean, mountains, or desert?
A: Ideally would live somewhere with all three.

Q: Favorite book(s):
A: Women Who Run With the Wolves, Braiding Sweetgrass, Brave New World, The Picture of Dorian Gray, The works of Edgar Allan Poe

Q: Favorite planet?
A: Pluto - not to be Plutonian about it, but it’s too expansive of an answer for a set amount of space

Q: What does wellness look like for you right now?
A: Routine. Giving myself consistency. Discipline as a freedom practice. Finding actionable steps to the philosophy that no one is coming to (or can) save you besides you.

Q: Favorite service / treatment at Boketto?
A: Acupuncture with Jelena, facial with Anne, massage with Malia (to be fair I haven’t gotten to work with all of our practitioners yet)

Thank you Meredith!! We are so lucky to have you at the shop!!

Enjoy our free downloadable PDF “Seasonal Eating from Boketto: Fall” by Boketto Founder, Jelena Nikolajevic.

As temperatures cool and daylight shortens, the way we eat naturally begins to shift. Warming, cooked foods take the place of summer’s lighter fare, while root vegetables, winter squash, cooked greens, richer proteins, warming spices, and slower cooking methods return to the kitchen. This guide explores fall eating through seasonal foods, digestion, metabolic stability, minerals, ferments and broths, meal structure, and practical cooking and storage methods.

Designed as a gentle framework rather than a rigid plan, the fall edition of our Seasonal Eating from Boketto Series encourages a more intuitive approach to nourishment as the seasons change.

Simply add to your cart to download the free PDF and read at your convenience whenever needed.

New on The Journal… FALL RECIPE: BUTTER CHICKEN

This recipe by Asha Loupy from Diaspora Spice Co. is shared to mark the arrival of Fall—the perfect season to be making stewy, warming foods like… ✨BUTTER CHICKEN✨

Originating in the late 1940s/early 1950s, Murgh Makhani (Butter Chicken) was created by legendary chef Kundan Lal Gujral, of Moti Mahal in Delhi, as a way to extend the life of tandoori chicken. The leftover chicken was simmered in a spiced tomato gravy, made extra luscious by a hearty dose of butter. Today, Butter Chicken has become a beloved dish not only across the Indian subcontinent, but also across the globe.

Like many recipes, this dish has many variations— some use more tomatoes than others, some call for upwards of 2 cups of heavy cream while others just ¼ cup, and, of course, the spice level varies— but there is one thing that remains constant in every iteration of butter chicken: paan methi (or fenugreek leaves). These sweet, herbal, slightly bitter leaves are what gives Butter Chicken its signature flavor.

Diaspora’s version of Butter Chicken is rich in chillies, using both Sirarakhong Hathei to bring mouthwatering smokiness and heat and Byadgi chillies for earthiness and they’re bright red color (if you’re craving a little extra fire, you can swap out the Byadgi for Kashmiri chillies). Its warm with cumin and coriander, plus a little cinnamon, and has plenty of paan methi weaving its way through the sauce.

This recipe is a labor of love— from gathering the South Asian spices, to marinating the chicken, and slowly cooking down the onions to blending the butter into the sauce so it emulsifies to a dreamy creamy bliss— and the end result is well worth the time. Psst, if you are making tandoori chicken, take a page from Chef Lal Gujral’s book, and make twice and much to use to make butter chicken later in the week!

WHAT IS AN ACU-LIFT?

Cosmetic acupuncture is more than skincare—it’s a holistic approach to skin health.

Also known as facial acupuncture, cosmetic acupuncture uses ultra-thin, sterile needles on strategic points of the face and body to stimulate circulation, support the skin’s natural regenerative processes, and promote balance within the body.

By creating tiny micro-injuries in the skin, acupuncture may support collagen and elastin production while improving microcirculation and lymphatic flow. And because treatment isn’t limited to the face, acupuncture points throughout the body can also be used to address things like jaw tension, inflammation, stress, and overall tension.

Potential benefits include:
• Supporting collagen production and skin elasticity
• Smoothing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
• Improving puffiness and circulation around the eyes
• Supporting clearer, more balanced skin
• Relieving jaw and facial tension
• Softening the appearance of nasolabial folds and fine lines around the mouth
• Promoting a deeply restorative, relaxed state

A treatment typically begins with a conversation about your digestion, sleep, energy, menstruation, diet, and overall wellbeing—because your skin doesn’t exist in isolation.

From there, your practitioner creates an individualized treatment plan. Treatments may also incorporate gua sha, LED therapy, serum/SPF application, and microcurrent for additional support.

The goal isn’t a quick fix. It’s to support healthy skin from the inside out while creating space for relaxation and restoration.

Cosmetic acupuncture isn’t appropriate for everyone, including those who are pregnant, taking blood thinners, have certain blood-clotting disorders, or have recently received Botox or filler. Always consult your healthcare provider before treatment.

To learn more, check out our journal post linked below, or book a consultation with Jelena online or over the phone.

Your circadian rhythm notices the seasons changing. In TCM late summer runs all the way through September 22nd, but our body still needs daily circadian connection in order to smoothly transition into the upcoming season.

One of the simplest ways to support your circadian rhythm is also one of the most powerful: see natural light at both ends of the day.

Morning light helps anchor your circadian clock, supports healthy cortisol timing, and signals to your brain and body that it’s time to be awake, alert, and metabolically active.

Evening light helps your body recognize that the day is winding down, supporting the natural transition toward melatonin production and sleep.

This daily light-dark cycle influences far more than sleep. Your circadian system helps coordinate metabolism, appetite, glucose regulation, hormones, body temperature, and cellular repair.

And as the seasons change, our cues need to change with them.

Try making sunrise and sunset part of your daily rhythm:
— Get outside within the first hour of waking
— Let your eyes receive natural daylight (without staring directly at the sun)
— Spend a few minutes outdoors around sunset
— Dim bright artificial light as evening progresses
— Let your bedtime gradually follow the earlier darkness

You don’t need a perfect routine. You need consistent signals.

Your biology is built to read the light around you. As summer gives way to fall, give your body the opportunity to read the season, too.

The Solid Serum Castor Blend from Olea is made from just two oils + four ingredients.

The barrier support your skin has been asking for. Organic castor oil creates a natural occlusive seal—locking moisture in and reducing the water loss that leaves skin dry and tight. Olea’s Castor Blend Solid Serum is hexane-free and cold-pressed to preserve every fatty acid. Black seed oil delivers what castor oil can’t do alone: antioxidant-rich protection from thymoquinone, essential fatty acids that nourish and balance, and calming support for skin prone to redness or irritation. Together, they work synergistically, one seals, one nourishes—for barrier care that’s more complete than either oil alone. Vitamin E adds antioxidant defense. Beeswax makes it solid, portable, mess-free.

Suggested Use: After cleansing and any actives or serums, warm a small amount between your fingertips and press gently onto skin. Use morning, evening, or both. Works on face, elbows, cuticles, heels, hair ends—anywhere your skin needs extra attention.

Ingredients: Organic Castor Oil (cold-pressed, hexane-free); Black Seed Oil (antioxidant-rich, perfect as a natural seed oil for face care); Vitamin E (supports skin’s moisture barrier); Beeswax (moisture-locking)

Size: 4 oz

About Olea: Our journey began in our founder’s kitchen, with a simple goal: to craft skincare that works naturally with your body. Castor oil’s magic is undeniable, but its mess - not so great. Driven by a vision to simplify its benefits, our founder set out to reimagine its use; a cleaner, more elegant ritual, stripped of the hassle but rich with potency. After countless experiments and an unwavering commitment to purity, the perfect blend emerged.

ICYMI: This week’s newsletter is all about hair care. Healthy hair isn’t just about what you put on your hair—it starts at the scalp and is shaped by how you care for what’s already grown.

A few simple rituals can make a difference: gentle brushing to distribute natural oils, washing only as often as your hair needs, giving your strands a break from excessive treatments and heat, avoiding constant tension from tight styles, and treating wet hair with a little extra care.

And sometimes, the best hair-care ritual is doing a little less.

Think of it as an inside + outside approach: support healthy growth through nutrition, hormones, stress, and overall wellbeing, while protecting the hair you already have through thoughtful, consistent care.

A handful of good habits > an overflowing bathroom shelf.

We have some exciting news! Our amazing Craniosacral Therapist, Marisa is offering two new services: Infant Sessions & Mother-Infant Dyad Sessions!

INFANT SESSIONS (30-min clinical appointment)
Birth leaves an imprint. Even when smooth, the process of coming into the world can create strain patterns in a baby’s body—affecting feeding, digestion, sleep, and nervous system regulation.

Craniosacral therapy combined with gentle myofascial release offers a non-invasive way to help babies unwind these early tensions and restrictions. This deeper work supports the resolution of common postbirth patterns like torticollis and plagiocephaly (flat head), while honoring the baby’s innate capacity for ease and coherence.

Whether from prolonged labor, fast delivery, C-section, or medical interventions, we work with the body’s innate intelligence to restore ease and support the expression of natural reflexes from the very beginning.

In a 30-minute session, we support your baby’s natural return to ease through gentle, skilled touch.

Ideal timing: anytime from the first days through 12 weeks postbirth; applicable through 6 months infancy.

Session Price: $75

MOTHER-INFANT DYAD SESSIONS (30-min clinical appointment)
Early infancy is a period of profound relational development. Mother and infant are not separate systems—they remain deeply attuned to one another at both nervous system and cellular levels (microchimerism).

This session honors that bond. Working with both bodies together, we support the nervous system’s natural capacity to regulate through safe connection, ease postbirth holding patterns, and deepen the felt sense of secure attunement between you and your baby.

In a 30-minute session, we work with both of you together to restore coherence and ease.

Ideal timing: anytime from the first days through 12 weeks postbirth; applicable through 6 months infancy.

Session Price: $75

08/23/2026

ICYMI: Our latest newsletter highlights the importance of understanding that your cycle is more than your period. It’s a month-long rhythm—and your body doesn’t necessarily need the same food, movement, rest, or support every day.

Understanding the four phases gives you a simple map for working with your body rather than constantly pushing through.

🌑 ME**ES | Replenish + Rest
Hormones are low and iron needs increase. Think warm, nourishing, iron-rich foods, rest, heat, and gentler movement.

🌱 FOLLICULAR | Build + Move
As estrogen rises, energy often follows. Lean into protein, greens, and more vigorous movement or strength training.

🌸 OVULATION | Hydrate + Connect
With the LH surge and peak fertility, prioritize hydration, minerals, sleep, nervous-system support, and moderate movement.

🌕 LUTEAL | Nourish + Slow Down
Progesterone rises, body temperature increases, and appetite may climb. Add healthy fats and complex carbs, and gradually shift toward lower-intensity movement and more recovery.

The goal isn’t four completely different routines. It’s learning to recognize your patterns and make small adjustments.

Hungrier? Restless? More tired? Suddenly energized? A workout feeling harder than usual?

Instead of automatically pushing through, consider what your body might be asking for.

And when fertility, painful periods, PMS, or changing hormones are part of the picture, that awareness can become an even more valuable tool.

Start with the map. Notice what changes. Then make small adjustments based on what your body is telling you.

For more individualized support, our Ayurvedic practitioner Kayla and Jelena for TCM + Functional Medicine can help you explore your cycle, nutrition, fertility, and hormone health through a more personalized lens.
