As one of the first abdominal transplant programs in the country, Virginia Commonwealth University Health System (VCU Health) Hume-Lee Transplant Center has been home to many important firsts, including Virginia’s first kidney transplant and Virginia’s first liver transplant. Hume-Lee was the first transplant center on the East Coast to complete a successful robotic-assisted kidney implantation, we performed the world’s first living donor liver retrieval, using state-of-the-art DV5 robotic technology, and we were the first center in the U.S. This tradition of medical innovation and success continues today, as Hume-Lee consistently ranks among the nation's leading transplant programs while remaining at the forefront of transplant care through the use of advanced therapeutic and surgical techniques.
