This study supports reporting BAC as a marker of cardiovascular risk. However, the authors note that “there remains a lack of consensus regarding the clinical action after a finding of BAC on mammography.” The authors also note that more prospective studies are needed to guide the development of management recommendations. SBI recognizes that there is currently no consensus regarding clinical management following the identification of BAC on mammography.

Breast arterial calcification (BAC) has long been noted and largely ignored, but what you're seeing on that mammogram matters well beyond the breast.

Not all BAC is equal, and how you measure it changes what it predicts. Quantitative scoring outperforms simple visual assessment in identifying women at risk for mortality and cardiovascular disease.
