Celebrating Black Breastfeeding Week 2026!
This week, Healthy Hearts Plus II proudly celebrates Black mothers, babies, families, and the beautiful journey of breastfeeding.
Black women DO breastfeed. We did it THEN, and we do it NOW!
Every breastfeeding journey is different. Whether you are exclusively breastfeeding, pumping, combination feeding, returning to work, or simply trying to make it through one feeding at a time, your effort matters.
A few reminders for your journey:
💗 Feed often. Frequent nursing helps establish and maintain your milk supply.
💧 Take care of yourself, too. Stay hydrated and nourish your body with wholesome, nutrient-rich foods.
❤️ Practice skin-to-skin contact. It can encourage bonding and support your baby's natural feeding instincts.
💕 Pay attention to the latch. Breastfeeding should not remain severely painful. If something does not feel right, ask for help.
🌸 Give yourself grace. You and your baby are learning together. Breastfeeding is a relationship, and it can take time to find your rhythm.
❤️ Reach out for support. Lactation educators, breastfeeding counselors, doulas, healthcare professionals, family members, and other mothers can be an important part of your support system.
During Black Breastfeeding Week 2026, we celebrate the generations of Black women who breastfed before us while encouraging today's mothers to feel informed, supported, and confident in making the feeding choices that work for their families.
We did it THEN & we do it NOW!
