Food matters. In my latest podcast conversation with Tina Shiver, Functional Medicine Practitioner, we explore the powerful relationship between nutrition, the gut, and overall health.

We talk about emerging research around ulcerative colitis, the potential benefits of foods like rye, and how compounds such as hydrogen sulfide may play a role in certain gut conditions. We also discuss why some foods—including eggs and cruciferous vegetables—may aggravate symptoms for certain people, depending on what is happening in the gut.

The takeaway? There is no one-size-fits-all diet. Understanding the biology beneath the symptoms can help us make more informed, individualized choices.

Chronic stress has a way of pulling us away from where we are.

Our minds replay the past: What should I have done differently?
Or race toward the future: What if something goes wrong?

Meanwhile, the present moment gets lost.

One way to interrupt the stress cycle is to gently bring your attention back to right now.

Notice your breath.
Feel your feet on the ground.
Pay attention to what you can see, hear, and feel.

You don't have to solve yesterday or control tomorrow in this moment.

Come back to now. This is where you are. 🌿

Stop spreading lies about yourself.

The stories we tell about ourselves matter. Over time, those stories shape how we feel, how our bodies respond, how we relate to others, and what we believe is possible.

Sometimes we repeat a false narrative for so long that it starts to feel like truth. Then, without realizing it, we teach other people to see us through that same lens.

That is not humility. That is shame dressed up as self-awareness.

Humility says, “I am still growing.”
Shame says, “I should not be here.”

The invitation is not to create a fake positive story. It is to tell a fuller, truer one — one that includes your pain, but does not make pain your identity.

What story about yourself might need to be revised?

Happy Father’s Day to the men who lead with strength, love with steadiness, and teach by the way they live.

Today we honor the fathers, grandfathers, spiritual fathers, mentors, and father figures who help shape our lives with wisdom, protection, presence, and love.

Happy Father’s Day. 💙✨

The Dunning-Kruger effect reminds us that confidence is not always a sign of competence. Sometimes the more we learn, the more aware we become of complexity, uncertainty, and the limits of what we know.

David Dunning and Justin Kruger published a 1999 paper called “Unskilled and Unaware of It” - their research found that people who performed poorly in areas like humor, logic, and grammar often overestimated their ability, partly because the same skill needed to do something well is often needed to recognize when you are doing it poorly.

Go figure.
