UCASS/ 21 Roads to Recovery
Welcome to...ROAD 10
š¤Accountability & Integrity
Learning to Live With Honesty, Responsibility, Trustworthiness, Character, and Consistency Between What You Say and What You Do.
š¤Road 10 builds upon the identity, purpose, values, and
self-worth developed in Road 9. After participants examine who they have been, who they are today, and who they are becoming, recovery requires another important question: Does the way I live support the person I say I am becoming?
š¤Accountability is the willingness to accurately examine one's choices, behavior, responsibilities, impact, and obligations-and respond appropriately when correction, repair, or change is necessary.
š¤Integrity is the growing consistency between a person's values, words, commitments, decisions, and behavior-even when there is no immediate reward for doing what is right.
Recovery can be weakened when people become skilled at describing change without consistently practicing it. Someone may value honesty but continue withholding important information. A person may want to be dependable while repeatedly breaking commitments.
Someone may apologize frequently while making little behavioral change. Another person may blame circumstances, substances, family members, systems, stress, or other people for decisions in which they still had some personal responsibility.
Road 10 teaches participants to examine these patterns without turning accountability into humiliation or shame.
š¤Healthy accountability requires accuracy.
