Please help us give a warm welcome to our newest clinician, Shayne Estes!
After 20 years of working as a Licensed Counselor, then 15 years as a United Methodist minister, Shayne is excited to combine his two careers to help people use their faith as part of their healing process. He's also in the process of becoming more proficient in Spanish, so he can provide counseling to Spanish speakers. I sat down with him to get to know him a bit better:
** What do you love about counseling?
"I enjoy seeing people have a more fruitful and enjoyable life. It's also rewarding to help people accept their value and worth."
** What are some of your clinical interests?
"I'm experienced in treating depression, complicated grief, anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, substance use disorders, and bipolar disorder. I also use the Gottman method to counsel couples."
** What do you like to do when you're not at VIPCare? Do you have any hobbies?
"I enjoy playing the cello, guitar, and bass. I regularly perform with the Richmond Philharmonic Orchestra. I also enjoy gardening and Tae Kwon Do."
** Share a fun fact about yourself?
"I enjoy traveling, and have been to eight other countries."
** Tell me something controversial?
"I'm a devout vegetarian...but only on Fridays."

She did it! This morning, we got to celebrate with our sweet Kucirious when she learned that her Residency was approved! No longer an intern, Kay is now officially a Resident in Counseling and one step closer to licensure. She has worked SO hard for this, and we are so excited for her and grateful to have her on our clinical staff. Be sure to congratulate her next time you see her!

We laughed. We wrote. Some might say we even 'waxed poetic'.
The VIPCare staff retreat was a lovely time of connection and curiosity. Led by local poet Nan Ottenritter, the staff was given various prompts to get creative juices flowing, then challenged to go write our own poetry about them.
How often do we give ourselves time to sit in the quiet of our own thoughts and let our creative brains flow? Today, I challenge you to go sit in a quiet place and look around you until your eyes land on something that inspires you, then write about it for ten minutes. You might just create something beautiful.
