A friend captured this pic of me dancing last night at a Prince tribute concert. Pure joy. I completely gave up on trying to constrain myself or look cool. Hallelujah!

Joy Break with a Grief Twist:

"A moment of joy." Sometimes joy feels like an elusive destination. A singular moment and feeling. But, it's not so.

The Tiny Adventures Path embraces the spectrum of experience partnered with joy. This week, I experienced the simultaneous experience of joy and grief. I received news that my high school teacher, Mrs. Janet Fuchs, passed away.

A flash took over me - I re-experienced the involuntary startle when Mrs. Fuchs slammed open the classroom door, pausing with her presence. And, next, Walt Whitman.

In the next moments, Mrs. Fuchs served as a channel for Whitman, introducing our class to his spirit. Whoa. Her willingness to get outside the comfort zone - totally change the dynamic of our class energy and leap into the unknown of how we would react. To a poem.

The joy of learning - Mrs. Fuchs generously offered that gift and we accepted.

So, I grabbed a nearby index card and my own simple poems surfaced. Mostly about the objects around me. The yellow house across the street. The disappointing, but pretty, candle. My phone. The word "Good" with its infinite connotations. And, the urge to be at the Outer Banks beach.

The poems have a tone of sorrow, but are written in gratitude. For Mrs. Fuchs and her awakening spirit that now rests. With her example, I can take some risks and share them with you! Thank you, Mrs. Fuchs.

Curiosity-Theme: "History at Your Fingertips."

The concept of history is BROAD. Personal history, society, earth, and the list goes on. So, we always have access to history at our fingertips.

We can be curious about what we've already experienced and how it changed our trajectory. A tiny adventure can have a big impact.

This week, my Dad sent me this photo from Thanksgiving of 2018 with my new baby nephew, Ace, in Richmond, Virginia.

At the time, I lived in Baltimore, Maryland. Fast forward to July 2019 ... and I was a Richmond, Va resident. I moved to be with my family for the first time in over 20 years.

I lived in so many places! Washington DC, Charlottesville, Boston, NYC, Baltimore .. I always needed to travel for Thanksgiving. Not anymore 🙂

During that period from Thanksgiving to July 2019, I underwent a life-changing transition. I surrendered my "old life" of being a humanitarian immigration attorney in Baltimore to a "new life" of being a Tiny Adventures Path entrepreneur in Richmond, Va. Whew!!

This photo of history makes me think of how birth can spark a rebirth. Thank you Ace for this gift and Dad for finding the pic 🙂

Joy Break: Celebrate Democracy

Joy comes in many forms. And, it is always intertwined with humility. The awe and wonder of energy beyond our own control.

Today, we celebrate democracy. And, we embrace the qualities of love, compassion, and tolerance.

This is a photo of a group American flag project at Fort McHenry in Baltimore, MD - one of my favorite places on Earth. I recall seeing this group and observing with joy, seeing the teamwork among all who respect and love our country.
