It was a full day in Lubbock Texas independent school district! It started with my keynote in the morning and then breakouts on su***de prevention for students the rest of the day. And the prevention includes lots of upstream ideas and how to handle the polarizing topic of limiting access to lethal means, namely fi****ms. Then it was Madalena’s turn to speak in the afternoon to close out the day of learning.

My resilience keynote at Bexar County The Center for Health Care Services in San Antonio TX. Not a seat left at their conference, multiple sponsors, and every breakout was packed. Now that's a mental health conference!

I presented When Life Shatters: Building Resilience After Tragedy which is about the post-traumatic growth that CAN happen after tragedy if you are intentional

The event for which I just gave a keynote. The attendees were so amazing and what a turnout! Not one seat was left available. These people in San Antonio show up!

These are some of the “tell me one thing you learned” index card submissions from the audience at my last keynote. More to post soon. This was from the Center for healthcare services in San Antonio Texas. So beautiful right?

I spoke at the Research to Recovery conference Tuesday, May 20, on the tragic link between SUD and Su***de.

I thought, since the room was out of the way, no one would come. “Maybe I will have 10,” I thought.

I had 100! The room was packed. While I usually do keynotes, I was thrilled to present on this topic and to offer them research validated tools and local resources. My son’s method left no question and he struggled with depression and addiction and died by su***de in 2015 while going through withdrawal.

The stories people shared! This is my favorite part about speaking—hearing from others and learning more.

While researchers think at least 25% of those who OD or die in active addiction are su***des, I would posit more.

So many came up to me after and said “I know it’s more. We hear it in the rooms all the time. The despair.” Afterwards there were some wide eyes as many recognized signs of su***de with someone the love right now.

It’s hard to tell intent after a drug-related death without a note or other evidence. And even then investigators are wary of declaring it a su***de which leads to gross underreporting. Not to blame anyone for that.

My son’s method left no question, however that’s not the case with an OD. Sometimes we just do not know.

I will be presenting at 10:15am tomorrow, Wed. May 20, 2026, on Addiction and The Tragic Link to Su***de: Awareness and Prevention Strategies.

Lots of stories, examples, tools, resources and the words you can use. Because how many of those "accidental" ODs and drug-related deaths are really accidental?

Mine will not be recorded unfortunately so you gotta be there in person!
