This Wednesday we welcome Dr. Tiffanie Aiken to our anesthesia team and as director of our pediatric acute and chronic pain programs. With a "non-caffeinated effervescent, friendly personality," she is passionate about helping people in pain, especially kids!

From Dr. Aiken: "I may not be able to take away all of the pain, but I can at least turn down the volume to aid in postop recovery on the postoperative side and help increase patient quality of life on the chronic pain side. I also love empowering my patients, and teaching others about medicine, anesthesia, and pain management."

In her free time, she enjoys a good punny t-shirt, spending time with her kiddos and loved ones, blasting good music, crocheting, playing card games and cooking.

Does your teen have asthma, diabetes or another condition that requires medication at school, and do they feel ready to carry it themselves rather than storing it with their school nurse? Then it may be time for a conversation with their care team.

Tara Lynch Horan, DNP, FNP-C, from CHoR pulmonology, explains this important milestone and why a school action plan is still necessary even after your child takes this big step.

Closing out this week with all the joy of neonatologist Dr. Jenny Fox reuniting with a CHoR superstar who was born at 23 weeks and only 500 grams. Mom said it best: "Everyone was awesome! She wouldn't be here without them."

Our Neonatal Continuing Care Program is dedicated to the health, learning and development of NICU graduates. Babies who require hospitalization in a NICU may have a higher chance of later health, growth and developmental needs and our multidisciplinary team works with families to help kids grow and develop to their highest potential. A big welcome this Wednesday to Dr. Maya Ramagopal, who has joined our exceptional sleep team as medical director. Dr. Ramagopal has found herself right at home with the team approach at CHoR and our deep commitment to patients and families.

In her words: "Sleep is so fundamental to the overall wellbeing in children (as well as adults and puppies) and I am thrilled to be able to bring my experience to the Richmond community. When I hang up my stethoscope for the day, I trade it for a pair of binoculars to watch the amazing birds that visit, or, with my husband, we train our 4-month-old German Shepard pup."
