When cancer turns life upside down, we help patients in the Greater Richmond area overcome financial burdens and find emotional support through special programs and a compassionate community, so they never have to face cancer alone.

Sometimes, support doesn't come in the form people expect.

It can be someone listening.
A ride to treatment.
Help with groceries or everyday expenses.
A support group that understands.
Or simply knowing you are not facing cancer alone.

What does β€œsupport” mean to you when someone is going through a difficult time?

We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

At The Hawthorne Cancer Foundation, we believe practical support, compassion, and community can make a meaningful difference when individuals and families need it most.

Meeting people where they are and helping others understand they are not alone on this journey is so imporant.

The Hawthorne Cancer Foundation Resource Center was established for that reason and we continue to be a way to connect and bridge the gap as a pathway forward.

While this isn't local to The Hawthorne Cancer Foundation the cause is near and dear to our hearts and for that reason we felt compelled to share!

During the 5K Walk + Roll presented by Nike at the San Diego Triathlon Challenge (SDTC) fueled by Toyota USA, participants will experience 3.1 miles of breathtaking coastal views in beautiful La Jolla, CA.

Walking or rolling, they'll be surrounded by athletes who will cheer them on, lift their spirits, and keep the whole crew moving!

When cancer treatment brings financial challenges, support matters.

The Weersing Family Grant Fund provides financial assistance to qualified cancer patients who are currently undergoing treatment, helping with needs such as food, shelter and transportation.

Created through the generous gift of the Weersing Family, the fund helps lessen some of the financial burden that can come with cancer.

SHARE YOUR SURVIVOR DAY STORY

Every cancer journey is different.

And every story matters.

Maybe there was a moment when you realized, β€œI can do this.”

Maybe someone said something that gave you hope.

Maybe it was a person who stood beside you when you needed them most.

Or maybe there is something you learned along the way that you wish someone had told you when your journey began.

We want to hear your story.

The Hawthorne's Survivor Day Story allows cancer survivors to share a moment that mattered, words of encouragement for someone beginning their cancer journey, and anything else they'd like others to know.

You can also share a photo that brought you peace or meaning during your journey.

Your story could be the encouragement someone else needs today. πŸ’™

Cancer can feel incredibly isolating.

But one of the things we hear again and again from people who have found their way to The Hawthorne is how much it means to have people who understand.

At The Hawthorne, patients, survivors, families, friends, volunteers, and supporters come together to talk, listen, learn, laugh, share experiences, and simply be there for one another.

Our Resource Center offers support groups, educational resources, a comfortable place to gather, and people who are willing to listen.

Sometimes you need information.

Sometimes you need someone to talk to.

And sometimes you just need to know that someone understands.

That's what community looks like at The Hawthorne. πŸ’™

If The Hawthorne has been part of your cancer journey, we'd love to hear from you:

What did having someone beside you mean during your hardest day?

Share your experience in the comments. Your words may be exactly what someone else needs to hear today.
