My patient, a nurse for over 35 years who works out daily, recently began experiencing shoulder tightness.
After applying Active Release Techniques (ART) and Graston in two sessions, she experienced temporary relief, but her shoulder quickly reverted to tightness. Recognizing this as unusual, I referred her to an orthopedist who diagnosed her with frozen shoulder and prescribed an intensive therapy regimen twice a week.
Since she doesnβt fit the usual profile for frozen shoulder, we brainstormed to figure out why this was happening. We realized that in her new role as a teacher at a nursing school, she was spending six hours, twice a week, in front of a computer writing curriculum for eight months. The sustained forward posture with limited breaks likely contributed to the tightening of her shoulder capsule over time.
After eight sessions over six weeks, we were both delighted to discharge her from care. The transformation was remarkableβtake a look at the last picture to see the amazing progress!
