City Establishes Bottled Water Distribution Site for Residents Impacted by Water Main Break

The City of Waterbury has established a bottled water distribution site for residents affected by Tuesday's water main break.

The distribution site will be located at Municipal Stadium, 1200 Watertown Avenue, North Parking Lot, and will be open today, Wednesday, July 29, and Thursday, July 30, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Residents who are currently without water may visit the site during those hours to receive one case of bottled water per household, while supplies last.

Yesterday, a water main break on Tompkins Street disrupted water service to portions of the city. Water Department crews remain on site working to repair the break and restore service as quickly and safely as possible.

"Restoring water service remains our top priority," said Mayor Paul K. Pernerewski, Jr. "We appreciate the patience and understanding of our residents as our crews continue working around the clock. In the meantime, we encourage anyone without water to take advantage of the bottled water distribution site."

Once water service has been restored, all affected customers will be placed under a Boil Water Advisory as a precaution while the Water Department conducts the required water quality testing. Residents should bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice, washing fruits and vegetables, or preparing infant formula.

The city will notify residents when the Boil Water Advisory has been lifted following confirmation that water quality meets all state and federal drinking water standards.

The city will continue to provide updates as additional information becomes available.
