📍 Ridgefield, CT • In-Person I specialize in : Couples Therapy, Individual Therapy, S*x Therapy, Affair Recovery, Healing Separation, Discernment Counseling, Divorce Recovery and

Co-Parenting Counseling. I specialize in relationships First, we start with the relationship with yourself, and we look at your level of self-compassion, as well as compassion for others, as these are highly correlated with therapy success. S*x Therapy- I am an AASECT Certified S*x Therapist & provide my clients a s*x positive, open forum to discuss this very private topic. In our sessions, we explore the possibilities of reconnection for emotional and physical intimacy, As aa Certified S*x Therapist, I have advanced training in relationships including LGBTQ issues, gender & s*xual orientation concerns,, trauma and post-traumatic growth, s*x and disability, kink, non-monogamous relationships, etc. Discernment Counseling- Some clients are not ready for Couples Therapy, please take a look at my three videos which describe what Discernment Counseling for couples is and how it differs from Couples Therapy. http://www.kelleyhopkinsalvarez.com/DiscernmentCounseling.en.html

Healing Separation:
I meet with partners and we discuss the very structured model of a Healing Separation, which is a structured time apart which can help partners heal a relationship that isn't working. For many, after going through this process, it results in transforming and relaunching the existing relationship – moving it from conflict, emotional distance, lack of trust, and/or lack of intimacy, to a more connected, and loving relationship. For some though, a Healing Separation results in one or all partners moving forward on a journey toward ending the relationship. We meet regularly to check-in and discuss issues that pertain to the separation including co-parenting, time spent together or apart, etc,

I have trained at Harvard University with speakers such as Christopher Germer, a mindfulness and compassion specialist, exploring more in-depth Positive Psychotherapy and Compassion in relationships. I was lucky enough to train with Pema Chodron for a meditation retreat at Omega. I have also had the pleasure of attending conferences and training by the creators of two of the most researched couples therapy models, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Dr. Sue Johnson, and with Gottman Couple Therapy founder, Dr. John Gottman. What do you think of email support outside of sessions to help you solidify the changes you seek? How about small homework items to keep you working outside of our sessions? I provide research-based and results-oriented methods in easy to incorporate steps with the follow-up support you need to get unstuck. I value your time and so make every effort to work hard with you and/or your loved ones to bring about change. Feel free to text me to 203-948-0938 to my office cell to set up an initial phone consultation, where you get a chance to ask me questions and for me to describe how I work with clients. Thanks for reading this!

The clearest sign of a healthy relationship is the ability to grow together. 🪞

Toxic dynamics are easier to leave in one sense. There's a clear villain, a clean exit, a story that makes sense to everyone who hears it. A healthy relationship doesn't offer that escape hatch. It holds up a mirror instead and asks something much harder. Show up. Communicate even when it's uncomfortable. Grow at the same pace as someone else. Swallow your pride before it costs you the thing that actually matters.

Your mind will try to make this feel like danger, because discomfort and danger can register the same way at first. This kind of hard is building something real. The other kind was breaking something down.

It's a choice you make again and again, not once. Especially on the days it's messy, unglamorous, and nothing like the highlight reel version of love.

That repeated choosing, day after day, is what most people never see. It's also exactly what makes it last.

Send this to your person, the one you keep choosing on purpose. 🔓

You’re not actually fighting about the dishes.

It just feels that way in the moment, but underneath, it’s usually the same pattern showing up again in a new outfit. One of you reaching for connection. The other pulling back to keep the peace. Same dance, different topic.

Next time you feel that fight starting to build, try pausing and asking yourself: “What is this really about for me?” Nine times out of ten, it’s not about who’s right. It’s about what’s underneath: feeling unheard, unseen, or unimportant.

Name the pattern, and you stop fighting each other. You start fighting it together.

Save this for your next argument. 🤍

Most people don’t struggle because they “have too many feelings.” They struggle because they don’t have the language for what they’re feeling.
That’s where the Feelings Wheel can help.
Instead of stopping at:
“I’m mad.”
“I’m stressed.”
“I’m fine.”
Try getting more specific.
Are you feeling hurt? Rejected? Discouraged? Overwhelmed? Insecure? Lonely?
Research shows that being able to identify emotions more clearly helps us regulate them more effectively and communicate with greater understanding and empathy in our relationships.
This week, try using the Feelings Wheel during a conversation with your partner. You might be surprised how much easier it becomes to explain what’s really going on underneath the surface.
Save this for later and send it to someone you want to feel more emotionally connected to đź’™
