For the parents sending their first—or only—child off to college…

I want you to know something.

Everything you’re feeling is normal.

Ive been crying because Addison was leaving. But really I’m grieving the life we’ve lived for the last 18 years.

The school supply shopping. The packed lunches. The rushed breakfasts. The car rider line I swore I’d never miss. The little routines that quietly became our life.

It hit me standing in Office Depot. For the first time in 14 years, I wasn’t buying folders, pencils, or backpacks. I was buying printer paper while watching another mom start the chapter I was finishing.

No one tells you that it’s the little things that break your heart.

The laughter in the house changes. The energy changes. The home changes.

I’m so grateful God trusted me with this beautiful girl. Every ordinary moment—planting flowers, afternoon ice cream, making dinner together, sunsets, road trips—those are the memories I’m holding onto now.
