Graduation Season Grief
There are parents who are not preparing for a graduation party, who are dreading attending them, and have perhaps, decided not to attend any. There are many reasons for this.
1. Their child isn’t graduating
2. Their child is barely graduating and has no plans
3. Their child is graduating in a non-traditional way (through their IEP goals, an alternative program, etc.)
4. Their child is 18, has already moved out, and is not talking to them.
5. They lost a child who should be graduating
6. Many more situations may have occurred

What can a parent do who is grieving during this season of graduation?
1. Get off of social media for awhile. Seeing all of the pictures can make it worse
2. Focus on your child’s strengths
3. Remember that every person has their own path and figures it out at different times
4. Write a letter to your child, even if you can’t send it.
5. Share memories of your child with family or loved ones
6. Accept your grief and feel it. Pushing it away will make it worse later.

Please know that you are not alone.

I love this!!! Self care doesn’t mean a spa day or vacation. It’s literally taking care of yourself in a way that fills you back up in order to love and care for others. When we neglect ourselves our body has a way of revolting. We get sick, we develop an autoimmune disorder, we snap at people, our own mental health declines, we have memory issues, the list goes on. Do something simple today to care for yourself. Putter, take your meds, shower, call a friend, or get outside. Have a great day.

We talk a lot about self-care.

We believe that self-care looks different for every parent, and when you find what fits *you* the best, self-care becomes a meaningful, beneficial part of life.

Puttering around while listening to music? Great!

Getting your nails done? Great!

Eating popcorn? Great!

Find what fills your life with joy and gives you a moment of reflection, care, and compassion for yourself.

Walking is a great way to shift the brain for parents and kids!

Walk when you need some intentional connection, when you need some brain shifting, and when you need to get your bodies moving.

Thank you
