As Día de los Mu***os approaches, we gather to create something tangible for our altars. 🌼
Fresh cempasúchil chains become an act of love - threading flowers together as we hold space for those we remember. This is not a workshop about learning facts. This is about being with each other, with our ancestors, and with the plant that has always welcomed them home. 💚
What We'll Do
Gather with Atole ☕ - Warm, nourishing, grounding
Make Cempasúchil Chains Together 🧵 - Fresh flowers, needle and thread in hand. Stories flow. Memories shared. Chains take shape.
Closing Meditation 🙏 - 10 minutes to bless our altars, our ancestors, ourselves
What Families Take Home
A fresh cempasúchil chain for their Día de los Mu***os altar - made with intention, blessed in community
All ages welcome 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Familias Guerreras y Sus Plantitas Aliadas 🌼
September Teach & Heal: Periçón (Mexican Tarragon)
Embracing Fall / Reflexión y Descanso

The summer rush is ending. The heat is beginning to break. And we're entering the last quarter of the year - a sacred threshold where we pause, reflect, and prepare for what's coming.

Pericón (Mexican tarragon) calls us to slow down. This gentle, aromatic plant has supported our families in transition moments - calming the nervous system, supporting digestion, and creating space for reflection as seasons shift.

This is not a workshop about doing MORE. It's about doing LESS. About creating rest. About asking ourselves: What do I need to let go of?
What do I want to carry into the final months of this year? How do I want to move into winter?

What We'll Experience Together:
🍵 Sip pericón tea as we gather
🧘 Guided meditation for reflection
📝 Gentle goal-setting for the final quarter
✨ Slow, intentional time in community

As we transition from summer's brightness to fall's quieter energy, pericón reminds us that rest is not laziness - it's preparation.

That reflection is not indulgence - it's wisdom.

All ages welcome to slow down together and reconnect with what matters.

The month of August really invited me to go slow. Grateful for the beautiful sunsets and the many encounters con la luna. Finding out that my milpita is growing corn was such a way to end the month. This month we celebrated my paternal grandmother's 89th birthday and also had a family reunion to honor the 50th anniversary since the passing of my paternal grandfather.
Grateful that my dad is also breaking those cycles of staying quiet and now he is able to talk about his loved ones who have transitioned. Growing up talking about grandpa was taboo.
Much gratitude for those who showed up for the plantita workshop, Sábila really showed up for us in a special way. These gatherings are a way to continue to reclaim the medicine of our ancestors and it is such a blessing to be able to include my daughters. They are naturals....

3 more weeks of summer, I am ready for the fall....my favorite time....

August Teach & Heal: Sábila (Aloe Vera)
Summer Skin Medicine

The heat is here. The sun is strong. And our skin is asking for help.

Sábila (aloe vera) grows right in our yards, on our fences, abundant and ready. This cooling, healing plant is exactly what our families need during peak summer - for sunburns, heat rash, dry skin, and the daily assault of California sun.

This month, we learn to harvest, extract, and create with this plant that's been supporting our families for generations. Fresh gel extraction. Cooling sprays. The knowledge to use aloe wisely all summer long.

What We'll Create Together:
🌱 Extract fresh aloe gel (hands-on!)
💧 Make cooling aloe spray to take home
📚 Learn when and how to use aloe safely

Perfect timing before late summer travel, beach trips, and the intensity of August heat.

All ages welcome - from curious little ones to abuelos who remember gathering sábila in their gardens.

Bringing Muicle to Our Familia Guerrera's circle

Abuela's remedies. Women's health. Family stories. All of it lives in one small plant: muicle.

On July 10, we're gathering as families to share how muicle has shown up for the women we come from—our abuelas, our mothers, ourselves. You're invited to bring your story and listen to others.

Want to bring muicle home? We have plants available for families who are ready to begin their own healing journey with this plantita aliada.

Register by July 9 with the QR code or link in bio.
Space is limited, and we can't wait to sit with you.

¿Quieres llevar muicle a casa? Tenemos plantitas disponibles para las familias que están listas para comenzar su propio camino de sanación con esta aliada.

Inscríbete antes del 9 de julio con el código QR o el enlace en bio.

Los espacios son limitados, emocionados de estar entre familias!!

Enjoyed this past month ♡♡♡

Thank you Alejandra Acuña for such a beautiful gathering con Doña Lucero Miirra Jilotepec.

The surprise flowers I received.

Our family trip to the movies.

Our last minute carne asada for Father's Day. Grateful for my dad and my husband.

Lots of last minute trips to Lake Gregory and to Laguna Beach. Grateful for my time out in nature 🙏🏽 🙌🏽

Our plantita workshop was centered around Basil, made a beautiful agua fresca and my daughter prepared the strawberries for the Quinoa and berries salad. Forgot to take a picture of that.

Closed the month with much gratitude and with some beautiful flowers for the Strawberry FullMoon.

In gratitude for the first 6 months of the year and ready for the next 6.

Enjoy this summer season

I wrote this blog earlier this month and just getting around to sharing here. I would say perfect timing because tomorrow is the summer solstice and it is what I centered in the blog.

June holds so much. 🌞

PTSD. Men's mental health. Pride. Immigration. And the summer solstice....a threshold our ancestors built into stone, into ceremony, into the water.

The new blog: Somos Luz — Entering Summer with Ancient Awareness

We're talking historical trauma, sacred sites, San Juan Bautista, and what it means to let the light in — even when you're still mid-journey.
