This post isn’t to minimize anyone’s experiences with the nastiness of anxiety. The aim is to give people a different perspective….that’s what us therapists do.
Anxiety is complicated because it’s not completely “bad.” In many ways, it’s an ancient survival system trying to protect you. The problem is that modern life has overloaded that system to the point where many people no longer know how to relax, feel safe, or emotionally rest.
A lot of people aren’t weak.
Their nervous systems are exhausted.
