Caring for our tiniest patients takes specialized skills, preparation and an incredible team.

Yesterday, our Neonatal Intensive Care Transport team came together for its annual skills training, reinforcing the expertise and teamwork needed to care for newborns during critical moments.

Throughout the day, team members participated in four hands-on training rotations focused on skills such as airway management, IV access and emergency procedures. They also practiced simulated neonatal transports, medication preparation and equipment readiness.

Behind every neonatal transport is a dedicated group of nurses, respiratory care professionals, neonatologists and EMS partners working together to provide compassionate, specialized care.

We're grateful for this extraordinary team and their continued commitment to being prepared for our tiniest patients.

Setting the bar for trauma education — together! 👏

At Riverside Community Hospital, advancing trauma care goes beyond the walls of our hospital.

On October 8, we proudly hosted our inaugural Trauma Symposium, bringing together more than 160 attendees, including registered nurses, EMS partners and trauma teams from surrounding hospitals.

As an ACS Level I Trauma Center, we're committed to sharing expertise, strengthening partnerships and advancing the knowledge that supports high-quality trauma care throughout our community.

A special thank-you to our incredible speakers for sharing their time, knowledge and experience, and to everyone who joined us for this important day of learning and collaboration!

Together, we're working toward better care for our community when it matters most.

Riverside cardiology expertise recently reached a national audience.

Dr. Shonit Nandakumar, a third-year general cardiology fellow, and Dr. Nikhil Ghatnekar, interventional cardiology associate program director, represented Riverside Community Hospital at the 2026 SCAI SHOCK symposium in St. Louis. They shared Riverside’s work to improve care for people experiencing cardiogenic shock.

Cardiogenic shock is a life-threatening condition that occurs when the heart suddenly cannot pump enough blood to support the body. Riverside’s approach emphasizes recognizing warning signs early, bringing the right care teams together quickly and escalating care without delay.

By sharing this work with doctors from across the country and learning from other experts in cardiogenic shock care, our team continues to bring knowledge and collaboration back to the patients and communities we serve.

Congratulations to Dr. Nandakumar and Dr. Ghatnekar for representing Riverside on a national stage!

Sepsis is a life-threatening medical emergency, and recognizing the warning signs can make a difference.

In this video, Dr. Ng, emergency medicine provider and sepsis champion at Riverside Community Hospital, explains what sepsis is, who may be at greater risk and signs that require immediate medical attention.

If an infection is followed by a sudden decline, unusual sleepiness, confusion or trouble breathing, seek emergency medical care right away.

Know the risks. Spot the signs. Act fast.

Staying informed about health risks can help you recognize when something is wrong and know when to seek care.

This week, Riverside Community Hospital colleagues were out in the community sharing health and safety education with older adults at the Janet Goeske Senior Center, including information on fall prevention, C. diff and sepsis.

Wendy, injury prevention coordinator, shared practical ways to improve strength and balance, reduce fall risks at home and help older adults stay safe and independent.

Jennifer, infection prevention coordinator, provided education about C. diff, a germ that can cause serious intestinal illness. She also shared information about prevention, including the importance of handwashing with soap and water and other steps that can help reduce the spread of infection.

September is Sepsis Awareness Month, making it an important time to learn about this life-threatening medical emergency. Sepsis happens when the body has an extreme response to an infection. Kinsey, sepsis coordinator, and Alyssa, intensive care unit educator, shared information about recognizing possible warning signs, including confusion, fever or shivering, shortness of breath and extreme pain or discomfort.

Knowing the risks and recognizing warning signs can help you take the right next step. If you suspect sepsis, seek medical care immediately.

Excellence in care is about more than what happens in the operating room. It is also about taking time to listen, explain and care for people with compassion.

We recently honored Dr. Joseph Elsissy as our 2026 local physician recipient of the Frist Humanitarian Award, part of the HCA Healthcare Awards of Distinction.

Created in 1971 and named in honor of HCA Healthcare co-founder Dr. Thomas F. Frist Sr., the Frist Humanitarian Award recognizes individuals whose commitment to caring for others extends beyond everyday acts of kindness.

Dr. Elsissy’s colleagues see that commitment in action. In their nominations, they described a surgeon who takes time at the bedside to explain the risks and benefits of surgery, discusses factors that can affect outcomes without judgment and patiently answers questions from patients and families. They also highlighted his dedication to teaching students and physician assistant fellows, supporting his surgical team and serving underserved communities.

That combination of expertise, communication, mentorship and service reflects the patient-centered care we strive to provide every day.

Last week, we celebrated two important milestones in advanced heart care at Riverside: more than 500 transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedures and more than 300 Watchman procedures.

TAVR is a minimally invasive procedure that replaces a diseased aortic heart valve without traditional open-heart surgery. The Watchman procedure places a small implant in the heart to help reduce stroke risk for certain people with atrial fibrillation.

These milestones reflect the experience and expertise of our doctors and Cath Lab colleagues, who work together to bring advanced heart care closer to home for our community.

Congratulations to the incredible teams who has helped make these milestones possible!

As part of HCA Healthcare, we're proud to announce a $4.8 million gift to Pepperdine University to help launch the School of Nursing with the Pepperdine University College of Health Science. This is part of HCA Healthcare's greater commitment to helping address the national nursing shortage.

“We believe that investing in nursing education is vital to the future of healthcare,” said Sammie Mosier, DHA, MA, BSN, NE-BC, senior vice president and chief nurse executive for HCA Healthcare. “It is a privilege to support Pepperdine University’s new School of Nursing as they prepare the next generation of caregivers with the tools, confidence and compassion to care for patients and communities.”

Pepperdine’s School of Nursing opened this fall and currently enrolls 68 students. The school provides undergraduate and graduate nursing degree programs, including a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and an Entry Level Master of Science, Clinical Nurse Leader (ELM-CNL). As part of their curriculum, nursing students will have the opportunity to complete clinical rotations at our hospital, Los Robles Regional Medical Center, in Thousand Oaks, California.

Alexis Mussi has always been a champion for culture, teamwork and operational excellence. We're proud to welcome her back to MountainView Hospital as CEO and look forward to the impact she'll continue to make across the HCA Healthcare Far West Division.

Welcome Alexis Mussi, new chief executive officer at MountainView Hospital!

This new position is a homecoming of sorts for Alexis, who led Surgical Services at MountainView Hospital before joining Southern Hills in 2016 as Chief Operating Officer, ultimately becoming CEO in 2019. Alexis began her healthcare career at Sunrise Children’s Hospital in 2008 as Director of Physician and Provider Relations, later advancing through leadership roles that fueled her passion for operations and strategy.

Alexis transformed Southern Hills during her tenure, growing the hospital from 134 to 331 beds and leading milestone projects such as the state’s first freestanding emergency room, ER at the Lakes, and the Division’s first psychiatric facility, the Pavilion.

Beyond these achievements, Alexis is known as a culture champion, bringing teams together to advance our mission -- the care and improvement of human life.

Congratulations Alexis and welcome back to MountainView!
