Mixing substances can be unpredictable, and sometimes, the combination is more dangerous than either substance on its own.

Some drugs can intensify each other’s effects. Others can mask warning signs, making it harder to recognize when an overdose is happening. And with an unpredictable illicit drug supply, people may also be exposed to multiple substances without realizing it.

Knowing the risks is an important part of overdose prevention. Share this one. More people need to know how unpredictable mixing substances can be. 💜

How do you learn to trust yourself again in recovery?

In the newest episode of AAC Thrive: Doing Life in Recovery, Melina talks about rebuilding self-trust through the small things—the promises you make to yourself and actually keep.

The full conversation gets into trust after addiction, why it can take time to rebuild, and what consistency can look like along the way.

🎙️ Listen to the newest episode at the link in the comments.

Then join us live tomorrow, Tuesday, August 11, at 4 p.m. PT / 7 p.m. ET for our next AAC Thrive discussion: Staying Sober Through Life’s Transitions.

Because life keeps changing in recovery. Jobs change. Relationships change. Families change. There are moves, losses, celebrations, and plenty of things you didn’t see coming.

Let’s talk about how we get through those changes without losing what we’ve worked so hard to build.

AAC alumni and anyone in recovery, we hope you’ll join us. 💛 Details are in the comments.

🐼 Happy National Lazy Day!

Despite what the name suggests, taking time to rest isn't being lazy—it's taking care of yourself.

Recovery isn't about being productive every moment of every day. It's about finding balance, listening to your body, and giving yourself permission to slow down when you need it.

So today, whether that means taking a nap, reading a book, spending time outside, or simply doing a little less, remember that rest can be an important part of healing.

How are you spending your National Lazy Day? 💙

Happy 📚

Books can give us a window into experiences we haven’t lived ourselves—or put words to something we know all too well.

Today, we’re sharing a few books written by past guests of our Addiction Talk podcast. Their stories explore addiction, recovery, resilience, and the complicated parts in between.

If you’ve read one of these, tell us what you thought. And if there’s a book about addiction or recovery that has stayed with you, drop the title in the comments. We’re always looking for something good to add to the list.

Healing isn't just about addressing substance use; it's also about reconnecting with yourself.

At River Oaks, trauma-informed yoga is one of the many therapeutic services available to help patients build mindfulness, reduce stress, and support emotional well-being in a safe, supportive environment.

The names keep changing.

Every time the drug supply changes, there are new risks for people who use drugs—and new things families, communities, and healthcare providers need to understand.
