For over 35 years, I have run a private practice in Clinical Psychology. In the past, I’ve used animals in my practice, first, a wolf hybrid (Sheila Wolf) and then for 12 1/2 years, worked with a German Shepherd (Bowser). I have had a variety of life experiences and have had many occupations during my lifetime. I feel this gives me a rather unique perspective for a cognitive therapist and I think
it helps me understand a wider range of people's concerns and worries and problems, and how difficult it can be to deal with the stress of everyday life. Prior to my work as a Clinical Psychologist, I worked as a masonry hod-carrier, cinder-man in a steel mill, pounded salt with a 12-pound sledgehammer in a salt mine, drove a 30-ton tractor-trailer hauling coke. I’ve taught at Marshall University, Denison University, Ohio University, and in universities in Wisconsin and here in Illinois. I've passed the handgun and combat shotgun courses mandatory for Navy Seals, was an expert in the Marine Corps with rifle and pistol, have taken several years of martial arts and now practice Tai Chi. I graduated with a B. from Stanford University, I spent an undergraduate year at the Sorbonne (University of Paris), lived in Grenoble, France, took a motor scooter all through France and Italy before coming home to Ohio and riding the scooter back and forth out to San Francisco. I received my Master's and Doctorate from Ohio State U. and did post-doctorate work at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge.
