Stars of the festival? We think so! ⭐🐴 Gypsy and Mama Mia loved meeting new friends, collecting pets, and sharing smiles at the Town of Flower Mound, Texas-Government Fall Into Flower Mound Festival on Saturday. Most importantly, they helped us spread the word about STEPS & Recovery Resource Council and the life-changing resources available for individuals and families on their journey to healing. Thanks to everyone who came by to say hello! 💙 A special thank you to Promoter Line, Inc for inviting us to be a part of the Veterans Village!

🐴 Volunteer Spotlight! 🐴
Bev spent some time this week giving Sissy some extra exercise in our new round pen, helping keep her healthy, active, and ready to support the work we do every day.

We're incredibly grateful Thomas Foundation Second Chance Horse Rescue, a 501c3 Private Foundation for sharing Sissy with our program and to Big Country Livestock Equipment, Inc. for donating our new round pen. These partnerships help ensure our horses receive the care, movement, and enrichment they need to thrive.
Every volunteer, donor, and community partner plays a role in making healing possible. Thank you for being part of our village! 💙

Today, on North Texas Giving Day, we remember our dearly missed Bob.
Bob was more than a beloved member of the STEPS team—he was part of our community. As our “Human-Equine Relations Manager,” he became a familiar face during North Texas Giving Day season and joined us on adventures to Cowtown Collection: Western Art and Gear Show at Brumbaugh's Furniture & Design, Lone Star Park with Hope4All, American Eagle Harley-Davidson with Go Fast, Do Stupid Stuff and more. At home, Bob was a superstar in our therapy program, touching countless lives.

Please consider making a gift to STEPS in Bob’s memory and helping us continue the work he made possible: https://www.northtexasgivingday.org/team/RRCSTEPSWithHorses

A $75 donation provides one therapeutic horsemanship lesson, while $150 provides one equine-assisted counseling session. Every gift carries Bob’s legacy forward.

Meet the herd at the heart of STEPS. 🐴

Our equines help military veterans, at-risk youth, and others feel safe, build trust, and take meaningful steps toward healing through equine-assisted counseling and therapeutic horsemanship.

Many members of our herd once faced uncertain futures. At STEPS, they receive individualized care, a renewed purpose, and a forever home. Because some arrive with age-related needs, health conditions, or difficult histories, their care can cost more. Altogether, it takes approximately $100,000 each year to provide feed, veterinary and farrier care, medications, training, and everything our horses need to thrive.

This North Texas Giving Day, your gift supports both ends of the lead rope: horses finding safety and purpose, and people finding connection, confidence, and hope.

We are heartbroken to share that Bob passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday.

Bob was in his 30s and had been part of the STEPS family for more than 8 years. He had been experiencing health issues for some time, but his passing was still unexpected and deeply felt.

Bob was more than one of our play therapy horses. He became one of the familiar faces of STEPS throughout North Texas. Over the years, he joined us at community events, fundraisers, outreach events, and celebrations across the area. He met countless people who may never have visited the ranch or experienced equine-assisted services firsthand—but they met Bob.

Bob also had a special gift for making people feel comfortable, regardless of their age. Children, teens, and adults who worked with him in counseling each experienced his quiet, welcoming presence in their own way.

Bob had a remarkable way of connecting people to our mission. He helped introduce our organization to the community simply by being Bob—quietly standing there, accepting attention, and reminding people of the very special relationship between people and horses.

We are grateful for every person who stopped to meet him, loved on him, took a photo with him, or simply smiled when they saw him.

Bob leaves a big space in our herd and in the STEPS family. We will miss him dearly.

Rest easy, Bob. Thank you for helping so many people find their way to STEPS. 🤍🐴

We’re grateful to the VA North Texas Health Care System for including us in this important day and for the opportunity to connect with others committed to supporting the well-being of our veteran community.
