The Drop-In Center is deeply saddened by the loss of our dear friend, Beth Marschak.

Beth’s years of advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights, civil rights, and her unwavering dedication to ending the HIV epidemic made her a source of wisdom whose impact cannot be overstated. We cherished her visits, guidance, candor, and willingness to listen, teach, and share her experiences with others.

Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched and the progress she helped create. Beth, you will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever appreciated.

Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Equality Virginia is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Beth Marschak, a pioneering le***an activist and community leader whose impact on the city of Richmond and LGBTQ+ Virginians across the Commonwealth cannot be overstated.

In 1975, Beth helped found the Richmond Le***an Feminists, creating spaces for belonging and advocacy when LGBTQ+ people faced overwhelming discrimination, isolation, and fear. Through decades of organizing and community care, she helped shape a more visible and more resilient LGBTQ+ movement in Virginia.

“The basis of any political action is community. It’s not just lobbying or sending postcards. It’s creating spaces where people get to know each other, feel supported, and can organize together,” Beth told RVA Mag in September 2025.

We are grateful for her leadership, her vision, and her unwavering commitment to justice. Our thoughts are with her loved ones, friends, and the many people whose lives she touched as we honor her memory.

🏳️‍🌈 Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈

Pride is a time to celebrate the strength, resilience, and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community. It is also a time to remember the history that shaped our community—including the devastating impact of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

The AIDS crisis changed countless lives and galvanized generations of advocates, healthcare providers, activists, and community members who fought for compassion, dignity, treatment, and justice. Their efforts transformed HIV from a death sentence into a manageable chronic condition for many and laid the foundation for the prevention and care services we know today.

For more than 25 years, Council of Community Services Drop-In Center has been proud to stand alongside our community in the fight to end the HIV epidemic. We remain committed to providing prevention services, education, testing, linkage to care, and compassionate support for those living with HIV.

As we celebrate Pride, we honor those we lost, recognize those who continue the fight, and recommit ourselves to a future where HIV is no longer a public health threat and every person is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.

Remember. Celebrate. Advocate. Support.
