🚛 Service Update for Village of Roanoke

GFL has informed us that their garbage collection truck experienced a mechanical breakdown today, and they were unable to complete today’s route.

Collection service will resume tomorrow. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as GFL works to complete the remaining pickups.

There has been some discussion about the 1% local grocery sales tax that went into effect on July 1, and we wanted to share why the Village Board believes this is a positive step for Roanoke.

First, this is not a new tax created by the Village of Roanoke. It is the same 1% grocery sales tax that the State of Illinois previously collected until January 1, 2026. When the state discontinued collecting it, local communities were given the opportunity to adopt it so those dollars could continue supporting their own communities.

The Village of Roanoke is not alone. Approximately 712 cities and villages across Illinois have chosen to adopt this local tax because they recognize the importance of keeping this revenue in their communities to help fund essential services and future improvements.

For Roanoke, this creates an important opportunity. Every time someone from outside our community shops, dines, or attends an event here, those local tax dollars stay in Roanoke and help support our community. Visitors become part of investing in our community, streets, public services, and future projects.

This is also one of the reasons community events are so important. Festivals, car shows, local celebrations, sporting events, and other activities bring visitors to Roanoke who support our restaurants, shops, and businesses while generating revenue that benefits our entire community.

A strong local economy benefits everyone. By supporting local businesses, encouraging visitors, and continuing to invest in events that showcase everything Roanoke has to offer, we are building a stronger future for our village.

Today was about more than a photoshoot, it was about telling Roanoke’s story. ❤️🌳

This morning, we had the privilege of welcoming the Illinois Farm Bureau and Woodford County Farm Bureau to Jumbo Park as they filmed interviews, captured video, and documented the incredible impact this project is already having on our community.

What started as an idea has become something much bigger. Jumbo Park is a testament to what can happen when neighbors, volunteers, local organizations, elected officials, and community partners come together with a shared vision to create something special for everyone.

A heartfelt thank you to the Illinois Farm Bureau and Woodford County Farm Bureau for recognizing this project and helping share Roanoke’s story across Illinois.

We also want to thank the Village of Roanoke Board, the Community Development Committee, our dedicated community volunteers, and everyone who has rolled up their sleeves to help make this vision a reality.

This is just the beginning!

As we continue moving forward into Phase 2, we have some exciting plans that will build on the momentum we’ve created. Every improvement is about creating a place where families gather, children play, neighbors connect, and visitors experience downtown and the pride that makes Roanoke such a special community.

The best communities aren’t built overnight, they’re built one project, one partnership, and one volunteer at a time.

🖤🤍 Throwback Thursday - Roanoke Edition 🤍🖤

This week’s Throwback Thursday takes us back to 1941, when this remarkable photograph captured a group of Roanoke coal miners whose hard work helped shape our community. Pictured are Arthur Brazer, Charles Triller, Lawrence O’Russa, Tony Barra, Peter Ferrero, and Joseph Isaia.

Just one year later, in 1942, the mine was filled in, marking the end of an important chapter in our community’s history.

For generations, the coal mine provided more than jobs, it helped build Roanoke. The hardworking men and families connected to the mine laid the foundation for the strong work ethic, determination, and sense of community that still define our village today.

As we look back, we’re reminded that Roanoke’s greatest strength has always been its people. Their dedication, resilience, and pride continue to inspire us as we build on that legacy for future generations.

🎬🍿 Movie Night is Back in Roanoke! 🍿🎬

There’s nothing quite like a summer evening in the park with family, friends, and a great movie!

Join us for a FREE showing of Disney•Pixar’s Cars on Friday, July 31st at 8:30 PM at Roanoke Community Park. Bring your blankets, lawn chairs, and your favorite people for a fun-filled night under the stars.

Concessions will be available for purchase beginning at 8:00 PM, so come early, grab a snack, and enjoy visiting with neighbors before the movie begins.

Events like this are what make Roanoke such a special place to call home. They bring families together, create lasting memories for our kids, and strengthen the connections that make our community so welcoming.

🚜🚒 Touch-A-Truck Roanoke is Back… and Bigger Than Ever! 🚜🚒

Get ready for one of Roanoke’s favorite family events! This year’s Touch-A-Truck is shaping up to be the BIGGEST and BEST yet, with even more hands-on fun, exciting attractions, and opportunities to come together as a community.

But this event is about more than trucks… ❤️ It’s about neighbors helping neighbors.

Throughout the event, donations will be collected for the Roanoke Benson Hope Center, helping provide food and essential household items for local families in need. If you’re attending, please consider bringing a donation.

🏃❤️ Roanoke, Let’s Give the St. Jude Runners a Warm Welcome! ❤️🏃

One of our favorite community traditions is almost here!

On Saturday, August 1, the incredible Chicago to Peoria St. Jude Runners will once again make their stop in Roanoke as they continue their inspiring journey to raise money and awareness for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Every year, the runners tell us that their stop in Roanoke is one of the highlights of their entire trip. Let’s make sure this year is no exception!

The runners are expected to arrive around 9:00 AM. After entering town, they’ll head to the Roanoke Pool for a well-deserved break, food, and a chance to cool off before continuing their journey.

We invite everyone in our community to:

👏 Bring your family and help us give these amazing runners the warm Roanoke welcome they’re known to love.
