Summer is in full swing, and for families in the Roanoke and Charlottesville area, that often means long days at the pool, lake, or river. If your child spends most of their summer in the water, you have probably seen firsthand how painful swimmer's ear can be.

Tips on preventing swimmer's ears:

If you have a child who spends most Summer days in the water, you've most likely witnessed how painful swimmer's ear can be. Swimmer's ear, also known as acute external otitis or otitis externa, is an infection in the outer ear canal (running from your eardrum to the outside of your head).

Notice any ringing after the fireworks this year? Here's what your ears are trying to tell you.

That ringing or muffled feeling is called temporary threshold shift, which is your ears' way of signaling that they've been overexposed to loud noise. Fireworks can reach 140dB or higher, well above the 85dB threshold where hearing damage begins.

If the ringing lasted more than 24-48 hours after the holiday, it's worth getting checked. Early intervention makes a real difference. Contact us today: https://www.hearinghealthassoc.com/contact-us or by phone: (540) 774-4441.
