Yoga is more than just the poses.
Asana (the physical practice) is powerful. It keeps the body strong, flexible, and healthy. But traditionally, the purpose of asana was to prepare the body to sit still with spine straight for meditation.
Yoga is actually a complete system known as the Eight Limbs of Yoga.
Another essential limb is "pranayama"-the practice of controlling the breath. Breath work calms the nervous system, focuses the mind, and helps regulate energy in the body.
Then there is "meditation", where the deeper work of yoga really happens. Meditation develops clarity, presence, and inner stability.
If someone only practices asana, they will absolutely get stronger and healthier-but they won't experience the full depth of yoga.
It also matters who you learn from. The best teachers are the ones who practice themselves. They get on the mat, move, breathe, struggle, and grow just like their students. They are walking the path, not just standing at the front of the room watching others practice. Real teaching comes from walking the walk, not just talking the talk.
For those who want to go deeper, our Health Coach Lakshmi offers programs that teach you how to integrate these practices-breath, meditation, and daily discipline— into everyday life.
Students who commit to this work often say the same thing:
"It's life changing."
