What Happens After Physical Therapy?
As physical therapists, we help people recover from pain, injury, and movement limitations.
But there's another question we hear all the time:
"What do I do after physical therapy?"
Many people feel better when therapy ends, but without a plan, it's easy to gradually lose strength, mobility, balance, and confidence over time.
That's why I invited longevity coach Eric Rubin to speak at our office about healthy aging, functional age, and what it really takes to stay active, capable, and independent as we get older.
One of the most engaging parts of the event was a simple reaction-time ruler test. It created plenty of laughter, curiosity, and discussion, while highlighting an important point: aging is about much more than the number on your driver's license. Your chronological age tells you how long you've lived. Your functional age reflects what you can actually do.
- Can you get off the floor comfortably?
- Carry groceries?
- Travel with luggage?
- React quickly when you lose your balance?
- Play with grandchildren?
- Stay active doing the things you love?
The good news is that many of the factors that influence how we age are modifiable. Strength, cardiovascular fitness, mobility, balance, nutrition, sleep, and daily habits all play a role in maintaining independence and quality of life.
Yet many people find themselves asking, "Where do I start?" or "How do I put all of this together?" That's where a longevity coach can help—providing guidance, structure, accountability, and a personalized plan that connects these important pieces into a sustainable approach to healthy aging.
Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to such a great discussion. The questions, conversations, and enthusiasm afterward reminded us how important these topics are to our community.
At Bella Physical Therapy, we're committed not only to helping people recover from injury and pain, but also to bringing educational programs and resources that help people stay healthy, active, and independent for years to come.
