Mohs Micrographic Surgery is named after the surgeon, Dr. Fredrick Mohs, who developed this procedure in the late 1930's. xtending below the skin surface and not visible to the naked eye. It is a specialized form of surgery, where the Mohs surgeon acts as the surgeon and pathologist simultaneously. Physicians who are members of the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS) have the highest level of training to perform this procedure. After finishing their residency in dermatology, fellowship-trained Mohs surgeons undergo specialized training for one or two years under the tutelage of one or more ACMS surgeons. To become a member of the ACMS, a surgeon must have completed at least 500 cases of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and reconstruction.
