Starting couples therapy or s*x therapy can feel vulnerable. Most people do not sit down with a therapist because life feels easy; they come because something feels painful, stuck, distant, or disconnected. Asking for help is not weakness. It is courage. It takes strength to say, “We need support,” and to let someone help you look beneath the surface of conflict, intimacy struggles, trust injuries, or communication patterns. Healing often begins when we are brave enough to show up, be honest, and let ourselves be seen. We help relationships build greater connection, trust, and intimacy. Reach out today.

Emotional intelligence helps relationships grow because the goal is not simply to develop “thick skin.” Thick skin may protect us from hurt, but it can also keep love, joy, vulnerability, and connection at a distance. Healthier relationships are built when we can notice what we feel without letting those emotions control how we behave. Anger, sadness, fear, and disappointment are not the enemy; they are information. The work is learning to pause and ask, “In the face of what I’m feeling, who do I want to be?” We can help relationships build greater connection, trust, and intimacy. Reach out today.

You can’t always choose what you feel, but you can choose what you do with it. Many of us learned to develop “thick skin” to survive criticism, hurt, or disappointment. While that protection may have helped us get through painful moments, it can also make it harder to let love, joy, vulnerability, and connection in. Healthy relationships do not ask us to numb our emotions. They ask us to notice what we feel without letting those feelings dictate how we treat the people we love. The question becomes, “In the face of what I’m feeling, who do I want to be?” We help relationships build greater connection, trust, and intimacy. Reach out today.

Many of us learned that getting through life meant developing “thick skin.” Maybe that story came from criticism, hurt, bullying, or the belief that emotions were something to hide. Thick skin can protect us, but it can also keep love, joy, vulnerability, and connection from getting in or coming out. Healthy relationships do not require us to numb what we feel. They invite us to notice our emotions without letting them control our behavior. The work becomes asking, “In the face of what I’m feeling, who do I want to be?” We help relationships build greater connection, trust, and intimacy. Reach out today.

Living in Michigan teaches us something about seasons. Summer feels alive, autumn invites reflection, winter can feel long and difficult, and spring reminds us that what felt dormant can grow again. Relationships move through seasons too. There are times of closeness, warmth, and ease, and there are times that feel cold, distant, or uncertain. The hard seasons do not always mean the relationship is over. Sometimes they are invitations to slow down, tend to what has been neglected, and look for signs of new growth. We help relationships build greater connection, trust, and intimacy. Reach out today.

Relationship conflict often lives in the tension between Intention and Experience. We may know what we meant to say, but our partner responds to what they heard and how they experienced us. What was meant as an observation may land as criticism. What was meant as kindness may feel harsh. Healthy communication does not require us to prove whose version is right. It asks us to stay curious about both: the intention behind the words and the experience of hearing them. When both matter, we create space to slow the conflict down, understand one another more clearly, and make collaboration possible. We help relationships build greater connection, trust, and intimacy. Healthy communication needs two things: one partner brave enough to be an assertive speaker and one partner willing enough to be an active listener. When we can say what we are thinking, what it means to us, and what it feels like to be us, communication becomes clearer and safer. When we listen with intention, curiosity, and without judgment, understanding becomes possible. Speaking about our own experience instead of criticizing our partner, and listening to understand instead of listening to respond, are simple but powerful hallmarks of great communication. We help relationships build greater connection, trust, and intimacy. Reach out today.

The opposite of Ownership is Dependency. Dependency avoids accountability and resists acknowledging the role we each play in how the relationship is functioning. The opposite of Activity is Passivity. Passivity hopes things will change while remaining unwilling to do anything that creates change. Together, dependency and passivity keep relationships stuck in the same painful patterns. We help relationships build greater connection, trust, and intimacy. Reach out today.

The world we live in is full of cycles. The birds leave around the same time and come back around the same time. The leaves fall and the leaves grow back at the same time. It goes without saying that there are parts of those cycles that we don’t enjoy. There are those of us that are morning people, some that are night owls. Those who can dance in the rain and those who prefer to bathe in the sun.
