Kirsten has been a birth doula since 2003 and a childbirth educator since 2005. At BBC, she teaches both our 5-week childbirth education series and our 1-day Childbirth Express class.

What she loves most about teaching is meeting and working with all kinds of families, giving them space to share their hopes, dreams, and fears, and watching them build relationships with other parents along the way.

Her hope is that every parent leaves her class knowing they have choices and feeling more confident advocating for themselves.

And her advice for anyone preparing for birth? Ask questions and trust your gut.

We’re grateful to have Kirsten as part of the BBC community and love the experience, encouragement, and perspective she brings to the families she teaches.

Preparing for a baby comes with a lot of lists. What you’ll need for the nursery. What to pack for the hospital. What your baby will need when they arrive.

But you’ll need support, too.

Having people you can ask questions, share experiences with, relate to, and lean on can make such a difference during pregnancy and postpartum.

At BBC, there are so many ways to find that support. You can connect with a doula, join a support group, take a childbirth education class, come to yoga, or simply spend time in our cozy classroom with other people who are in a similar season of life.

And as the days get shorter and colder, having somewhere to go and people to connect with can matter even more.

You were never meant to do this alone. We’d love to be part of your village.

This DONA International-approved training is designed to give you the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence to begin supporting families as a birth doula.

Over three days, you’ll learn about birth, support, advocacy, and the role of a doula, practice real-life skills, learn from experienced doulas, and connect with others who are beginning this journey too.

Meet Madison, our fall intern!

Madison is a senior at Nazareth University studying Public Health with a minor in Developing Child and Families. She’s especially interested in maternal and family health and is excited to connect what she’s learning in the classroom with real-life experiences at BBC.

Outside of school, you’ll find her playing on the women’s volleyball team at Naz, exploring local farmers’ markets, or spending time with family and friends.

After graduation in Spring 2027, Madison hopes to pursue a career in public health and make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families.

We’re so happy to have Madison joining us this fall and can’t wait to see all that she learns along the way!

Unity Doula Education Days are simply life giving. This is challenging work, and as doulas we often work solo alongside our clients. Building relationships and partnerships with nurses, clinicians, and with other doulas is invaluable.

These events remind us we’re part of a care team and we feel it, deeply. Thank you to Unity and Rochester Regional Health for hosting this awesome event, to Monroe County Community Health Improvement Planning and Island Wraps for an amazing lunch, and to all of the instructors and volunteers who made it happen!

Our topic was Meeting Pain with Possibility: Where Practice, Choice, and Physiology Meet. We learned about the physiology of pain, supporting our clients with both non-medical and medical options in birth, and… drumroll… Unity will be offering water birth as an option for low risk birthers in 2027! 💦🌊

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, a time set aside to recognize the grief of bereaved parents, honor their lost little ones, and share in support for their journey. Star Legacy, a leader in education, support, and awareness for bereaved families, says this, “Promoting awareness of pregnancy and infant loss not only increases the likelihood that grieving families will receive understanding and support, but also results in improved education and prevention efforts which may ultimately reduce the incidence of these tragedies.”
