Members of The TABLE, a 15-member collective of individuals who have experienced homelessness and/or housing precarity, each provided a representation of something of significance to them, which Alejandro then wove into the design.

On Tuesday, August 11, we launched Year 6 of the ZVMS Street Medicine elective for Mayo Clinic medical students. 60% of the 1st-year class is participating in the elective.

We held Tuesday’s orientation at the Catholic Charities overnight shelter and featured a panel of members of The TABLE (https://zvms.org/thetablemn/). And, The Landing MN, Dorothy Day Hospitality House - Homeless shelter in Rochester, MN, Rochester, MN Salvation Army, and the Catholic Charities overnight shelter gave an overview of their services.

The Rural Health Initiative kicked off its third year with students from the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine. The day included a farm tour and a farm health and safety panel focused on barriers to care in rural communities and the importance of building trust through communication.

The event was hosted by Olmsted County Farm Bureau members Tony and Michelle Rossman and brought together more than 35 participants.

On Sunday, Mayo Clinic medical students participating in the ZVMS Rural Medicine elective visited the Rossman Farms. We had the chance to learn firsthand about the hard work involved in running a livestock farm. We also benefitted from a panel discussion about barriers to care and ways to gain trust.

We’re grateful to everyone’s dedication to our medical education. We’ll be better doctors because of it!
