Richard W. Taylor Jr.

Richard W. “Rick” Taylor Jr., of Owego, New York, passed away peacefully after a short illness on May 28, 2026, at the age of 73. Born on November 13, 1952, Rick lived a life defined by hard work, loyalty, laughter, and a remarkable ability to fix just about anything put in front of him.

Rick was the proud owner and operator of Rick’s Service Center in Owego since 1984, where he built not only a respected business but also a reputation that extended far beyond Tioga County. A gifted mechanic with an uncanny ability to diagnose and repair even the most stubborn problems, Rick became the person other mechanics turned to when a repair had everyone else stumped. Whether cars or motorcycles, if Rick couldn’t fix it, most figured no one could.

His greatest professional joy came in sharing his passion with his son, Austin, who worked beside him for more than 25 years. The garage was more than a business—it was a gathering place. Friends often stopped by for morning or afternoon coffee, repairs, conversation, and entertainment in the form of one of Rick’s legendary stories. Witty, quick with humor, and never afraid to laugh at his own jokes, Rick had a gift for turning ordinary moments into memorable ones.

Before becoming the mechanic so many knew and trusted, Rick began his career in the culinary world. Soon after high school, he worked as a talented chef at the Ramada Inn in Ithaca and the Owego Treadway Inn. He later moved to Santa Barbara, California, where he worked as a sous chef at the Reindeer Room and as a chef at Santa’s Kitchen, frequented by many prominent figures and celebrities. Though his professional path changed, the pride he took in skilled work and caring for others never did.

Rick was an avid motorcyclist who loved the freedom of the open road and looked forward to trips around the Finger Lakes region and to bike weeks in Laconia, NH; Ocean City, MD; and Myrtle Beach, SC. Even in recent years, when riding became less frequent, motorcycles remained part of who he was. He also enjoyed frequent trips to New York City and Ocean City with Cheri, creating many cherished memories. At home, Rick found equal joy puttering around his homestead, where he could often be found on his tractor, mowing for what seemed like endless hours, perfectly content in the seat and in his own company.

Rick will be remembered for his sharp wit, generous heart, remarkable talent, unforgettable stories, and the way he could make people laugh…sometimes he was the one laughing the hardest at his own jokes. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and the enduring love of family and friends who will miss him deeply.

Above all, Rick was proud of being there for his children, whom he considered his greatest accomplishment. He took great pride in showing up, offering guidance, and sharing his knowledge.

Rick is survived by Cheri Sigmund, his loving and devoted partner of 35 years; his daughter, Sarah Taylor; his son, Austin (Ashleen) Taylor; his father, Richard W. Taylor Sr., and companion, Florence Eastman; his brothers, Michael (Lorraine) Taylor, and Timothy (Kris) Taylor; his nephew, Ryan Taylor, Billie Taylor (mother to Sarah and Austin); and his beloved companion Bentley, affectionately known as “Weenis” or “B-Man,” who held a very special place in his heart. In addition, he leaves behind a circle of cherished friends who have become family.

Rick was predeceased by his mother, Joyce E. Taylor.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Rick’s life at the Owego VFW on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., where stories, laughter, and memories can be shared in the spirit of a man who was fondly known as “Rick from Rick’sssss”.

Due to allergies, please do not send flowers to the VFW. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to Stray Haven Humane Society & SPCA at 194 Shepard Road, Waverly, NY., or the VFW Post #1371, noting the Honor Guard, at 207 Main Street, Owego, NY, in loving memory of Richard (Rick) Taylor Jr.

Avram Kent

Avram Kent, a gifted artist and nature lover of Rochester, NY, passed away on May 5, 2026. Born on April 19, 1971, in Rome, NY, Avram was a man of quiet depth who found his greatest love in the natural world and working with his hands.

Avram earned his degree in Fine Arts from Syracuse University. His love of wood-fired ceramics led him to study in Japan and then to apprentice with renowned Abstract Expressionist ceramists Peter Callas and Peter Voulkos. He shared his skills with students both in New York City and Western New York. He was also an accomplished woodworker whose craftsmanship can be found throughout Upstate New York.

Avram was rooted in the outdoors. From a youth spent skateboarding and snowboarding to passions for boatbuilding, camping, canoeing, and fishing, he moved through nature with a deep understanding and was most at home in the solitude of the woods and the ocean.

Though he was a quiet individual, Avram possessed a profound understanding of his connections to others. He viewed his relationships, both close and distant, as essential teachers in his life’s journey.

He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Gerald and Lucille Schuldt; his paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Laura Kent; and his stepmother, Debbie Kent. He is survived by his father, Nigel Kent (Camden, NY); his mother, Robin Field (née Schuldt) (New Port Richey, FL); his brothers, Izaak Kent (Hartville, OH) and Elliot Kent (Camden, NY); and his friend and former wife, Suzanne Lefebvre (Rochester, NY). He also leaves behind a large community of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews who will remember his authentic spirit.

Earl A. Conklin Jr.

Earl Conklin Jr., was born September 28, 1957, to Edith (Cross) Breakey and Earl Conklin Sr. in Monticello, NY. He passed away on May 22, 2026 in Rochester, NY surrounded by the reflections and memories of a life lived fully in its own way.

He was preceded in death by his mother Edith, father Earl Sr., sister Vonnie Sue, several aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his daughter and long time caregiver Toni Heininger. His youngest son Jonathan Conklin. His grandsons Alexander (Katy Zimmerman) Heininger, Matthew Heininger and Derick Koen. His brother John Marinello and other family and friends who were with him for a season or a reason that he remembered and reflected on fondly at the end of his road.

At one point in his life he was able to find peace and happiness in hunting, fishing, and the quiet moments outdoors that came with them. He loved Randy Travis and Elvis Presley. But absolutely nothing brought him more joy or pride than his grandchildren. He loved telling stories about Alex and Matthew’s football success or betting friends they never knew someone who could run faster than Derick.

His life was not without hardship or complexity. But in the end, he reflected often on life, family, and the passage of time. Those who knew him will reflect on both his strengths and his struggles, and will remember him for the man he was.

He asked that we all remember that: “Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live.”

Cremation and services will take place privately at the request of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brighton Football Booster Club at 2604 Elmwood Ave Suite 231, Rochester NY 14618-2213 to help continue the legacy he believed his grandsons left and to help others have the same opportunities he believed helped his grandsons achieve greatness.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.

Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten. Because of them, we are given the gift of freedom—something we hold close not only today, but every day.

As we gather with loved ones this Memorial Day, may we take a moment to reflect, to remember the lives lost, and to express our deepest gratitude to those who gave everything.

We remember. We honor. We are forever grateful.

Love and loss are forever intertwined. One cannot exist without the other; the grief we feel is a reflection of the love we’ve shared.

Even in loss, that love remains—shaping us, guiding us, and reminding us of what truly matters.

Russell Young

Russell Dennis Young, 83 of Albion, NY, passed away peacefully in his home on May 13, 2026. He had entered hospice care at home on April 24, 2026 after enduring end stage renal disease and a complicated bone infection in his foot. Russell was surrounded with much love during this time, receiving many visits from friends and family. Most importantly, Russell finished his race well with Jesus by celebrating him with worship music and prayer during his final days. He is now home with Jesus, rejoicing in his glory.

Russell was born in Medina, NY in 1943 to Russell Young Sr. and Mary Coppa. At five years old, he was in the drum and bugle corps, and later in the Medina, Mustang marching band. He graduated Medina High school in 1961, and then joined the Navy from 1961-1966 (Vietnam Era War Veteran). After this, he went on to marry the love of his life; Colleen (Hungerford) Young. They had two Children: Scott R. Young and Danell (Young) VanDeGenachte. Russell Retired from Harrison Radiator in Lockport, NY after working there for thirty plus years.

He was in several rock and roll bands during his younger years, and then transitioned to playing drums for the praise and worship team at Alabama Full Gospel Fellowship until he was 75 years old. Russell inherited his father’s trumpet and taught himself to play. He then joined the honor guard to play taps for military funerals. He also served as an Elder at Alabama Full Gospel Fellowship for many years. During his younger years, his passion was fishing and hunting. He even had fantasies about being a “mountain man,” inspired by his love for western films. “I’ve got two guns, one for each of you.”- Tombstone. He leaned into his mother’s Italian roots, and enjoyed cooking and adding garlic to everything. Russell loved quoting his favorite movie lines, repeating funny phrases that his kids and grandkids said when they were young, and loved telling “grandpa jokes.” He was often never serious, trying to get a laugh out of people.

One thing he was very serious about: his love for Jesus Christ. He was known as the “Jesus loves you” man in Orleans County. He wore his self-made hats and shirts that simply said “Jesus.” Any time, any place he would tell anyone who would listen that “Jesus loves you.”

Russell is predeceased by: his wife Colleen (Hungerford) Young, his sister Carol (Young) Graham. He is survived by: his sister Betty (Young) Cissell, his son Scott R. Young and wife Lynda Young, his daughter Danell (Young) VanDeGenachte and husband Edmund VanDeGenachte, his grandchildren Nina (Ceniccola) Gilhousen, Andrew Ceniccola, Katelynn Young, Jared VanDeGenachte, Ashley VanDeGenachte-Narburgh, Chantel VanDeGenachte, and his great-grandchildren Dakota, Payton, Nash, Saylor, Jett, June, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. “Grandpa” “peek-a-lotta-justa” you all!!

There will be a service to honor Russell Young at Alabama Full Gospel Fellowship in Medina, NY on June 13, 2026 starting at 11 am. There will be a meal to follow the service.
