Cyclosporiasis is a diarrheal illness caused by the Cyclospora cayetanensis parasite. While it's most common in tropical and subtropical regions, South Carolina typically sees about 50 cases each year, often linked to international travel or imported food products.

The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) investigates every reported case by gathering information about possible exposures and working with the CDC to analyze laboratory data. Although a multistate outbreak is currently under investigation, South Carolina's reported cases have not been linked to that outbreak based on exposure history or laboratory findings.
