Breastfeeding may happen at the breast, but supporting breastfeeding is a team effort. 🫶🏽

Partners can make a meaningful difference by bringing the baby to you, keeping you fed and hydrated, taking over diaper changes and household tasks, protecting your rest, and reminding you that you’re doing an amazing job.

Most importantly, listen without judgment. Ask, “What do you need from me right now?” Sometimes support means helping you continue breastfeeding—and sometimes it means supporting a change in the feeding plan.

During Black Breastfeeding Week, we’re celebrating the partners, families, doulas, lactation professionals, and communities who help Black parents feel supported, protected, and empowered.

Because “We’re All We Got”—and no parent should have to navigate their feeding journey alone. 🖤

We All We Got!🫶🏽

Black Breastfeeding Week is a celebration of our strength, our stories, and the power of community.

Black families deserve to feel seen, heard, protected, and supported throughout every feeding journey. That support may come from partners, grandparents, friends, birth workers, lactation professionals, and the community surrounding them.

Because breastfeeding was never meant to happen alone.

This week, we celebrate Black parents, Black babies, and the villages that continue to uplift them. We also recommit ourselves to making skilled, compassionate lactation care accessible to every family—regardless of income, insurance coverage, or ZIP code.

When we support Black families, we strengthen generations. We all we got! ✊🏾💜

I’ve been a little quieter lately, and honestly, it’s because I’ve felt defeated.

August is Breastfeeding Awareness Month—a time when we’re supposed to celebrate, educate, and support families on their feeding journeys. Yet at the same time, changes within the insurance system are denying families access to lactation care and making it harder for providers to continue offering these essential services.

It’s difficult knowing that families need support while lactation professionals are constantly fighting for coverage, fair reimbursement, and the ability to provide care to everyone who needs it. Lactation care should not be a privilege based on someone’s insurance plan or ability to pay.

I love this work deeply, but the weight of it all has caused me to take a step back. I needed time to breathe, regroup, and remind myself why I started.

Families deserve accessible, compassionate, and evidence-based lactation care. Providers deserve to be valued for the care we give. I’m still here, still passionate, and still committed—I’m simply being honest about how difficult this season has been. 🤍

Pumping isn’t one-size-fits-all.

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is that pumping should either be easy—or that everyone should produce the same amount. Neither is true.

A few small adjustments, like checking fl**ge fit or replacing worn pump parts, can make a big difference in comfort and milk removal.

✨ Reading these reviews never gets old.

If Netflix did a documentary on my life, it would definitely be a multi-part series on finding the perfect breastfeeding pillow! 🍼 Sometimes the best pillow is actually no pillow at all. Which side are you on?

đź’śBlack Maternal Mental Health Week đź’ś

Every mother deserves to be heard.
Every birth deserves respect.
Every family deserves equitable care.

Pregnancy and postpartum can bring incredible joy, but they can also bring challenges that aren’t always visible. Black mothers are disproportionately affected by barriers to accessing timely, compassionate mental health care before, during, and after birth.

No parent should ever feel dismissed, unheard, or alone.

As a nurse, lactation consultant, and birth doula, I’m committed to creating a safe space where families feel supported, listened to, and empowered throughout their journey. Caring for a parent means caring for their mental health, too.

This week, let’s raise awareness, reduce stigma, and remind every parent that asking for help is a sign of strength—not weakness.

If you or someone you love is struggling during pregnancy or postpartum, know that support is available, and you deserve compassionate care.

🤎 Because when mothers are supported, families thrive.

If my job ever became a Netflix documentary, there would definitely be plot twists… painful latches, bottle refusal, pumping dilemmas, sleepy newborns, and the happiest ending of all—a family leaving with confidence. 🫶🏽
