As Covid cases continue to rise, Dr. Nwe has 10 tips for how to prevent getting sick while we continue to plan for our summer travels and vacations:
1. Try to mask at all times while indoors, even in cars and planes. Replace with a new mask once you get off of a plane/other modes of public transportation (There is almost a 100% chance that you will be exposed to someone with Covid on the plane).
Don't be afraid to change masks frequently (every couple of hours) especially if you're in a large crowd.
2. Wash hands frequently.
3. Use contactless payments whenever possible. Handling cash, bills, change can increase risk of transmission, so keep them in a designated bag, handle with gloves, or sanitize/wash hands after handling.
4. Don't wear clothes twice. Keep/seal worn clothes in a plastic bag and put in a designated part of the luggage.
5. Do not keep worn clothes on beds. Remove clothing as soon as you return to the hotel room, turn it inside-out, and put in a plastic bag.
6. Try to plan outdoor activities rather than indoor ones.
7. Pack masks, disposable gloves, sanitizer, covid test kits.
8. Over the counter painkillers, sugar-free cough lozenges, and allergy medications can control symptoms in case you get sick while traveling.
9. If you can, carry a thermometer and pulse oximeter (pro tip: some fitness trackers/watches can provide an estimate).
10. Be careful when discarding used masks/gloves. Try to flip them inside-out and tie them whenever possible to limit the spread (see picture).
Being careful and taking measures like this can prevent you from getting sick while still enjoying your vacation. Have fun and be safe!
