Meet Michael!

Michael, better known around the station as “Hilty,” is one of our EMTs with Lyon County Ambulance. Whenever we need a patient for a training exercise, Hilty somehow always ends up volunteering—or more accurately, getting volunteered. He has a talent for getting nervous over even the smallest things and likes to act like he has no idea what’s going on. The funny part is that beneath all that uncertainty is someone who’s actually pretty smart and usually knows exactly what he’s doing. Just don’t tell him we said that, because it might go straight to his head!

EMS Week comes around every year, and every year we pause to say thank you—but the work behind those words deserves recognition every day. Improving outcomes is truly a team effort, with dispatchers, EMRs, EMTs, AEMTs, paramedics, law enforcement, fire personnel, emergency departments, trauma centers, and public health partners working side by side on every call. To every EMS professional, instructor, medical director, service leader, and dispatcher across the state: thank you. The work you do is complex, demanding, and often carried out under extraordinarily difficult circumstances, yet you continue to provide exceptional care, advocate for your patients, and support one another when it matters most.

Meet Geoff!

Lyon County Ambulance is lucky to have Geoff on the team. Between juggling three jobs — including his role as a driver for the ambulance service — he still manages to dedicate an impressive amount of call time each month. Geoff is known for his great sense of humor and can always be counted on to crack a joke that gets the whole crew laughing. And while he’s always ready to respond to a call, he’s probably even more prepared when it comes to footwear, considering he has at least 40 pairs of shoes in his closet, many of which have never even been worn!🫣😂

Meet Eric!

Eric, an EMT with Lyon County Ambulance, is known just as much for his quick wit as for his reluctance to embrace technology. He’d much rather go back to the days of paper run reports, often groaning at the sight of a computer and half-jokingly begging for pen and clipboard instead.

Despite that, he keeps the crew laughing, cracking jokes out of nowhere even on the busiest shifts. And if you ever needed proof of his dedication, just take a look at his closet—it’s an impressive collection of nothing but grey ambulance shirts. :)

Meet Derek!

Derek is a new EMT with Lyon County Ambulance who’s already settling into the role with a great mix of dedication and humor. He’s nearly finished with his Advanced EMT (AEMT) schooling, showing he’s serious about growing his skills and taking on more responsibility. He brings a positive attitude to every shift—and while he’s always ready to respond to a call, he’s just as ready to agree to a “quick” coffee stop on the way home.

Deb is a dedicated EMT with Lyon County Ambulance whose commitment to service spans decades—twice. She first served from 1978 to 1984 before stepping away to raise her children. In 2014, she returned to the crew, but not by simply picking up where she left off. Instead, she retook the entire EMT course and passed her boards all over again, proving her determination and passion for helping others. Her journey is a testament to perseverance and the kind of dedication that truly sets her apart.
