🚑 Cheers to Dan on His Retirement! 🎉

Today we celebrate Dan and his retirement from Lyon County Ambulance!

Dan has been a valued part of our ambulance family, always willing to jump in and help when needed. As a driver, he’s logged countless miles and helped get our crews safely where they needed to be. But beyond that, Dan brought something else to the crew that can’t be measured in miles—a good joke and a good laugh! 😂

You could always count on Dan to lighten the mood, make someone laugh, or have a story to share. His sense of humor and easygoing personality will definitely be missed around the station.

Dan, thank you for the time, dedication, laughs, and countless miles you’ve given to Lyon County Ambulance and our community. We are grateful for everything you’ve done and the memories you’ve helped create along the way.

We hope retirement brings you plenty of time to relax, enjoy life, and, of course, keep telling those jokes! 😉 Don't be a stranger!

Meet Toni!

Toni runs at the AEMT level with Lyon County Ambulance while also working as an RN at Avera Rock Rapids. She always has a smile on her face and is willing to lend a hand whenever she can. Toni brings a strong work ethic, and a ton of compassion to both of her roles. There may also be a story about Toni backing over an entire boulder while on a call—but we’ll save that one for another day!

Most of the crew at Lyon County Ambulance participated in this training over the last 2 days and we cant say enough good things about all that we learned! The guys and gal from VRT that came to teach us are so knowledgeable and did a fantastic job showing us what we need to know to stay safe!

Meet Tasha!!

Tasha is a dedicated EMT with Lyon County Ambulance who is always willing to lend a helping hand—she'd truly give the shirt off her back to help someone in need. In addition to serving her community as an EMT, she works for Health Services of Lyon County and previously served as a dispatcher. Even in her spare time, Tasha continues to support Lyon County Ambulance by helping with office bookkeeping, making her an invaluable member of the team both on and off the ambulance. Around the station, she's affectionately known by several nicknames, including "Tashawa" and "Domeyer," a testament to the friendships she's built and the positive impact she has on those she works with.

Meet Steven!

Steve is one of the newest EMTs with Lyon County Ambulance and has already reached an exciting milestone by passing his National Registry exam. He is currently riding third on the truck to continue learning our protocols and become familiar with the equipment and layout of the ambulance. Outside of EMS, Steve stays just as busy at home with his wife and their four young children, who certainly keep life active and full of adventure. We're excited to have him on the team and look forward to watching him continue to grow.

Meet Sam!

Sam is an AEMT with Lyon County Ambulance and an RN at Bethany nursing home in Brandon, South Dakota. Even though her full name is Samantha, almost no one calls her that. If Sam believes she's right, prepare yourself—she'll argue her case with the determination of a lawyer until you either agree or give up.😉

Around the station, though, she's best known as the legendary "puke magnet." No matter what the dispatch notes say, if Sam is on the truck, there's an almost guaranteed chance someone is going to throw up, p**p, or both.☠️ At this point, we're all convinced it's less of a coincidence and more of a superpower.🤣

Meet Nick!

Nick, better known around the station as Weber or Webs, is the kind of paramedic every crew hopes to work with. Soft-spoken by nature, he's often the first to pull a harmless prank and keep everyone laughing. He's incredibly smart, though he'd never be the one to tell you that. Whether it's sharing his knowledge or lending a hand, Nick is always willing to help when he can, making him a valued teammate at Lyon County Ambulance.

Meet Michael!

Michael, better known around the station as “Hilty,” is one of our EMTs with Lyon County Ambulance. Whenever we need a patient for a training exercise, Hilty somehow always ends up volunteering—or more accurately, getting volunteered. He has a talent for getting nervous over even the smallest things and likes to act like he has no idea what’s going on. The funny part is that beneath all that uncertainty is someone who’s actually pretty smart and usually knows exactly what he’s doing. Just don’t tell him we said that, because it might go straight to his head!
