May is National Stroke Awareness Month and returning to driving is often one of the biggest questions individuals and families face after a stroke.

Many people are unsure when it is safe to drive again and a driving evaluation can help provide clarity, guidance, and peace of mind during the recovery process.

Wondering if it’s safe to drive after a stroke? Learn how a driving evaluation can help you return to driving safely.

Four years ago, Cathy noticed she was having difficulty quickly and accurately finding the brake pedal. She made the difficult decision to stop driving because she no longer felt confident behind the wheel.

Several months ago, she decided it was time to get back on the road and return to driving with adaptive equipment.

Cathy came to Apex Driving Rehab, where we helped determine the best hand controls for her and her vehicle. She completed training with the equipment on familiar roads and routes she plans to continue driving in her community. We also guided her through the adaptive equipment installation process, and the controls were installed in her new vehicle.

Today, Cathy completed the final step, passing her driver’s test, allowing her to officially return to driving!

Congratulations, Cathy! Thank you for trusting Apex to be part of this process back to independence 🥳

The Rogue served its last client yesterday 💚

I bought this car in 2018, never imagining it would one day be used for driving rehab. It was the first new car I purchased after graduating college and beginning my career as an OT. It was the car I left home in for the first time as I started my career in travel therapy.

I still remember nervously sitting in the passenger seat as my very first client got behind the wheel.

Since then, this car has helped a lot of people and has served me and Apex well!

The new vehicle is currently being modified. Stay tuned! 👀🚙✨

April is Occupational Therapy Month 💙

As an Occupational Therapist, I have the privilege of helping people return to the things that matter most—especially driving.

OTs are uniquely trained to look at the whole person—how vision, cognition, sensory processing, and physical abilities all work together in real-life situations. That’s what makes us especially equipped for driving rehabilitation.

Driving isn’t just about getting from point A to point B. It’s independence, engagement, and connection to the world around us.

At Apex, we meet people where they are and assess their ability to safely return to their communities with the skills and confidence they need.

Grateful for the opportunity to do this work every day.
