June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month.
Too often, men are told to "tough it out" or keep their struggles to themselves. The reality is that mental health challenges affect millions of men every year, and seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Men account for nearly 80% of su***de deaths in the United States and are significantly less likely to seek help for depression, anxiety, burnout, and other mental health concerns. Many men experience symptoms differently, with struggles sometimes showing up as irritability, anger, withdrawal, or substance use rather than sadness.
This month, let's help break the stigma by checking in with the men in our lives. A simple conversation, a listening ear, or a reminder that support is available can make a meaningful difference.
If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available:
📞 Call or text 988 for free, confidential support 24/7.
💙 Local resources such as Rosecrance, NAMI Northern Illinois, Mercyhealth, and UW Health offer mental health services and support right here in our community.
Together, we can create a culture where men feel comfortable asking for help, sharing their experiences, and prioritizing their mental well-being.
