We often hear this concern from our patients' families "I wasn't there". Gabby words this so beautifully reminding us that our loved ones take with them everyone who was there all along, not just those there in the final moments.
Thank you Gabby, The Hospice Heart for saying this in such an eloquent manner.

Not everyone is able to be at the bedside when someone they love is dying.

Sometimes distance, illness, lockdowns, timing, family dynamics, or the wishes of the person who is dying make it impossible. And for those left behind, that absence can carry a very heavy kind of guilt.

I have sat beside many people in their final days and moments, and one thing I believe deeply is this:

They do not take with them only who was in the room at the last breath.

They take with them who loved them.
Who showed up in the ways they could.
Who called.
Who wrote.
Who prayed.
Who worried.
Who cared from across the miles.
Who loved them long before the bedside became part of the story.

I have also seen people wait until the room is quiet to take their last breath. Sometimes a loved one steps out for just a moment, and that is when death comes. I do not believe that is abandonment. I believe that sometimes, it is permission, privacy, a final letting go without being watched by the people they love most. Most people do not want that to be the last thing you see.

And sometimes, the person dying does not want anyone there. That can leave deep hurt behind, but even then, their choice does not erase the love that existed.

If you were not there, I hope you can be gentle with yourself.

Your absence from the room does not mean you were absent from their life.

They did not leave carrying only the memory of who was beside the bed. I believe they carried the love, the history, the laughter, the forgiveness, the conversations, the care, and all the ways you belonged to one another.

And maybe this is also our reminder to say the things now.

Not because we will always get the perfect goodbye, but because love should not have to wait for the bedside.

Today we remember the men and women who lost their lives in service to our great nation. We express our sincere gratitude to these heroes who paid the ultimate price for our freedoms, and we humbly thank their families for their sacrifice as well.
May we never forget to show our appreciation for such patriotism.

Yesterday we were honored to be a part of Richmond County Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Richmond's Healthcare Day. We appreciate FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital- Richmond, Richmond County Health Department, Richmond County (NC) Emergency Services, and Daymark of Rockingham for participating in the day as well. We hope that the participants learned something new about some of the healthcare options and services available in Richmond County.
Participants were welcomed to our portion of the day by arriving to our campus and seeing the event building with a Christmas overlay offering a sneak peak into the planning of our Taste of the Sandhills Showcasing Dancing with the Stars fundraiser coming up in September and we hope they enjoyed seeing some of the planned decor and also their "Christmas" lunch prepared by Hidden Treasures.
We were proud of our three staff members in the class for receiving "Exceptional Perfect Attendance" meaning they were present for all sessions along with the kick off meeting and both of the days of their community service project. Way to go Karen, Lisa, and Shannon!

Yesterday, May 14th, Richmond County Hospice hosted our bi-annual Light of Life Memorial service at Roberdel Baptist Church. This service is a time of remembrance and reflection for our patients’ families giving them the opportunity to reflect on their loved ones' lives, remember the moments they shared together, and thank them for allowing us to have a small part in their journey. Following the service guests were invited to join us in the fellowship hall for a catered dinner prepared by Chasing Sunshine Catering.

We would like to take a moment to thank all of those who had a part in making this such a meaningful program. We appreciate each of you sharing your time and talents with us especially Cayla Hardesty pianist for the prelude music, Pastor Phil Goble for his heartfelt words about hospice care and reminding us that death is just a parting that we shall all meet again one day in heaven and what a reunion that will be, Riquita Quick for her beautiful musical selections, Nancy Boling for her part in the service, the members of the congregation of Roberdel Baptist Church for putting in the extra work to make the fellowship hall available for our dinner and then putting it back to the needed classrooms for the next day along with everything else they did to make our team feel welcome, and last but certainly not least the members of our bereavement team and other staff who worked to put the service together from planning to set-up to clean up you guys rock.

We hope that all of those in attendance left feeling encouraged as they continue on their grief journey.
