Is it cuckoo to do a second yoga teacher training? Absolutely not! I know of many people that have done more than one 200 hour YTT, and I have trained a handful, and not one of them have felt that it was a waste of their time. Why you ask? Because every training is different - has different focuses, approaches, and perspectives, even strengths and shortcomings. And, believe it or not, 200 hours flies, and it can be challenging to absorb all of the basics of yoga asana(postures), philosophy, sequencing, anatomy, meditation, etc. etc. etc. in 200 hours.
After completing your 200 hour training you have a variety of options… do nothing 😕, pursue continuing education trainings, pursue an advance 500 training, or complete a second (or 3rd or 4th...) 200 hour YTT to master the basics. “Know the basics of anything that you want to master.” ~ Vikram Verma.
So, no doing a second 200 hour YTT is not cucko. It may well be your key to building the necessary foundation to master your understanding of yoga and sharing this amazing practice with others! A 2nd take is an opportunity to make something great even better!

This! Yoga is not just stretching, not just fitness, it is multidimensional. Understanding the energetics and the effects on the nervous system, heck the whole bodily system, are imperative to effective and compassionate sequencing and cuing.

Yoga and the passing down of yoga teachings dates back over 3,000 years, and the modern yoga that many of us now know dates back about 160 years. It is an ever evolving practice and system. A practice that was once passed down from teacher to individual student has shifted markedly over the past 6 years to many trainings being on-line perhaps meeting your teacher or not and sharing your teacher’s with an indefinite number of students. I believe that on-line teaching is a practical way to teach some aspects of yoga and I believe that continuing ed courses and advanced trainings lend themselves extremely well to on-line learning. However, certain aspects of yoga do not lend them selves to on-line learning especially when you are learning the building blocks and basics of this broad and deep practice. Yoga is about connection, energy, subtle awareness - these are best appreciated in person.
I find it interesting that there are a growing number of teacher mentorship programs for new teachers who are struggling after they graduate from trainings - perhaps not having had the opportunity to practice holding space, and using all of the senses to observe and guide their students.

Tula’s 200 hour yoga teacher training blends the benefits of online training hours for anatomy and philosophy, and in person training hours for practicing, observing, guiding, and taking advantage of the ever important group process of learning. Tula’s next training begins September 2026. FYI and to apply - https://bit.ly/TulaYogaTraining

WOULD YOU BELIEVE? NO, YOU WOULD NOT! Part of the Tula Yoga Training is role playing different, unexpected situations that might come up during a yoga class. These activities are enlightening, necessary, and fun! After discussion, and frequently laughter, Tula students ask me, does this really happen? When I say "yup" they continue to look at me with skepticism.
Then... several months after graduation I begin to see comments in the group chats saying, "I didn't believe Katey when she said this might happen in a yoga class, but guess what happened at my yoga class the other day."
Exploring these potential situations prepares future yoga teachers to navigate them with grace, compassion, and humility.
Tula offers a hybrid in-person / on-line 200 hour yoga training based in Midcoast Maine. FMI - https://bit.ly/TulaYogaTraining
